Is Eva just too popular?

We were all set on a name but then DP suggested Eva. I really love it but since researching have noticed it's viewed as being too similar to Ava, Evie, Eve. I hadn't even realised those were popular as I don't really have many friends with kids so not aware of overkill. Not keen on my daughter being one of 3 or 4 girls with the same name in her class but then again it just feels right. What do you all think?

It is a lovely name but I do know 3 Eve's and 2 Evie's, 4 of them are in my dd's class.

Smartiepants79 · 05/10/2014 22:27

Well we called our daughter Evie because we loved it.
I didn't even stop to wonder if it was 'popular' or not.
Who cares.
I Just don't get it. If you love it, use it. Sod what anyone else has called their children.

PartPixie · 05/10/2014 22:27

I don't know any Eva's but I do agree it is part of a general trend. If it feels right is feels right. You could pick an obscure name and it could rise in popularity or you could just have bad luck and end up with another in the same class.

Well, I love it, but I had a name as a child that was (then) very unusual, and just craved a more popular name. It is hard to know if your dd would like to have a fashionable name or an unusual one, this far in advance. So I'd say, if you love it, don't let this put you off. For what it's worth, I know only one child called Eva. Lots of the other variants, but they are quite different I think, both in sound and connotation (and all very lovely, too).

I'm withsmartie we named DD Evie because we loved it and didn't think any further past that.

I also call her Eve.

Eva is also a lovely name

MsBug · 05/10/2014 22:35

Well for me, I want to give my DC names which people will have heard of, and know how to spell, but won't be one of three or four in their class. So popularity does matter to me.

Eva is lovely though, nicer than eve or Evie IMO

Great name - what can I say! Wink

My DN (7) is Eva, I loved it from the minute my DSis announced her name. It's a really pretty name, great through all ages I think! Don't be put off just because lots of other people love it too.

I also have an Evie, she is the only Eve varient in her class of 60, but there are two Ebonys which I don't suppose their parents would have expected.

SingSongSlummy · 05/10/2014 23:14

I know 3 Eva's all between 2-5yrs!

pebble82 · 05/10/2014 23:55

Thanks everyone. In that case I think we'll keep

Oops clicked post too soon...what I meant yo say is we'll keep it as a definite option along with our original choice. Will see what she suits when she's here (hopefully not long!)
