How many do you know? I really like it but don't want him to have to be Oscar H!

TIA

I know SIX of them. I live in Cheshire. They are all under 8.

2 aged 1 & 3, it's nowhere near as popular as Oliver of which there are 4 in the preschool class alone as ds nursery

Is Oscar really very popular?

Not anymore in South Africa, methinks.

ITrulyMoustache · 03/10/2014 17:04

I only know one Oscar (mine Grin) though when I'm in town or at the park I nearly always hear Oscar being yelled at some kid. All from about 5 downwards

ITrulyMoustache · 03/10/2014 17:06

charlotte oddly that's the reason I wouldn't name my dc1 Oscar. I knew it as a pets name. But it grew on me for dc3

YoYoYooooo · 03/10/2014 17:07

I have a 20 year old Oscar - we used to live overseas and it was not popular but on returning to the UK we found it to be very popular. I know a couple of others in their teens.
I laugh when people say it's a dogs name as my DS was named after my Aunties dog (he was an especially lovely dog Wink )
I still love the name.

I know loads, but none older than 12. I can't like the name, I am a child of the 70s and to me it will always be Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street, can't get past that!

PandaG · 03/10/2014 18:07

2 in the preschool I work at this year alone. Then know a couple of others

Rox19 · 03/10/2014 22:26

I know loads
3 under 1
2 aged 2-3
4 aged 4
Boys I meet under 5 I hazard a guess at oscar, josh / if a bit more liberal Reuben and I'm usually right :-)

I know two, one newborn and one toddler.

As always, darkgreener is interesting on this: names.darkgreener.com/#oscar. I suspect that it is still on the rise, and that it will hang around the top ten for a while. I don't think it's the new Jack, but when you consider that there were 3289 Oscars born in 2012, and 4511 in 2013, it'll only take a few years in the top ten to stack up quite a lot of little Oscars! If you really want to avoid a very popular name then it might not be for you.
