We have two names we like- Oscar and Theodore. I'm quite set on having older names that are traditional. Any other ideas?

Edward? I think it is one of the loveliest names there is for a boy. I also like Ed, Ned or Eddy as nn.

Are Oscar and Theodore traditional?

I would've thought Peter, John, Matthew, Mark, David, Antony, Richard, Thomas, Michael etc are traditional names.

It's DS1's mn

We have a Theodore as well.

Oscar looks relatively recent (C18th) certainly compared with Theodore (classical Greek) but I don't think either are traditional English really, and both have become relatively popular quite recently.

My ds has an Old English name, but it's short form is currently ridiculously popular. I'd look at the more 70s set of names, Andrew, Peter, Richard etc, or perhaps royal names (usually fairly traditional).

Think of your grandparents' brothers' names.
Mine were William, Arthur, Harry, Frank, Richard, Charlie, Thomas.

Balonz? I've heard that is quite a popular traditional name in parts of the country, particularly Surrey.

Balonz - second time I've seen it today on MN. Assumed it was Polish. Or something...
