The name Mindy?

What are your thoughts on this for a little girl?

I think I knew someone with this name- nn for Araminta, if i recall correctly.

I like it, it doesn't sound too cutesy to me.

I had a cat called Mindy (and another called Mork) when I was little. Child of the 70s!

Do not like it at all.

Minty isn't cute, pilates, people use it to describe things that are dirty or sweaty.

Mindy is quite nice now I think of Mindy Kaling rather than the Mork lady.

I've known two Mindys, but they were both nicknames. One was short for Parminder (Indian), the other was short for Araminta (v.posh).

The Mindy I knew was short for Amanda but nobody ever called her that. It was only after I became very good friends with her that I found out her real name.

Only known one Mindy, short for Harminder.

Unfortunately, she was of unpleasant character, so struggle to like the name.

When I was at school I had a friend who's mum was called Mindy. She was the source of much gossip and snorting amongst the other mums because her name matched her character so well. She would pick her daughter up from various 'posh' cars, wearing tight leather trousers and patent heels and loads of jewellery. She was very dizzy and would flirt with any dad or male teacher around. my friends dad, her husband, worked on the oil rigs but I think now she wasn't lonely

I think it's a really cool name.
It's weird people are saying it's too twee when you see how popular actually, flowery little girl names are in here!

It's silly to think they won't be able to do a professional job without a very old formal name. It's only because currently people in those positions are older so have names accordingly. When this generation are older their names will seem normal.

I don't like it. Reminds me of America in the late 80s, where I met a few. Mindy's friends would be Twyla and Kendra. (Eeurgh)

Not for me but then that's the point isn't it.

The way I see it is this. Once you name the kid you MIGHT get people saying "ooo don't like it" but then it's unlikely that would continue for long (at least repeats from people).

Though, "The Mindy Project" makes me think it's a total ditsy name.

Thanks very much for all your comments, it does seem to be a very marmite name! That has put me off a little but I still keep coming back to it. I also think it's no more twee than alot of popular names just now so that doesn't bother me so much.

Mindy Kahling is very accomplished writer, producer and actor. I'm not sure why the association with her would be bad.
