Dd2 is due in december and dh and I have been discussing names. So far our favourites are: Philipa (Pippa)
Imogen
Charlotte
Bethany
Bronte

I really love Bronte but am concious that its quite unusual and we'll probably spend plenty of time spelling/ pronouncing it to people. Our favourite is Pippa but none of our other dcs like it. What does everyone think?

I like Pippa and Bronte best even though they are quite different.

The others are a bit too middle of the road for me.

kimlo · 12/09/2014 19:52

I like Pippa. Philippa is the more usual spelling, but you get a lot of people spelling it diffrent ways. I have reason to know that Wink.

dd1 wanted to call dd2 Ella, but I didnt give her a say.

manicinsomniac · 12/09/2014 21:07

Really like all of them except Bethany which is fine, I just don't especially like it.

Charlotte and Bronte are my favourite (not together!!)

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 12/09/2014 21:08

Phillippa Bronte Surname sounds good.

ralinax294 · 12/09/2014 21:09

Philipa - Not too keen but I do like the nn Pippa.
Imogen - Love it.
Charlotte - Love it.
Bethany - It's okay.
Bronte - Love it, my favourite from your list.

BethanFaye · 12/09/2014 21:23

Bronte is my favourite by far, it's gorgeous!

Charlotte & Imogen are lovely, Bethany is ok and I really dislike Philipa.

Bowlersarm · 12/09/2014 21:24

Pippa and Bronte are lovely.

SomeSunnySunday · 12/09/2014 21:55

I don't 'get' Bronte at all. Sorry. And I'm not keen on Bethany (although Beth is very nice).

I like Imogen, Charlotte and Pippa (although Pippa doesn't travel well, if that bothers you).

Hassled · 12/09/2014 21:59

It's usually Philippa - three Ps. I love Pippa, and Imogen. A bit iffy about Bethany and Bronte - well, it's a surname, isn't it?

Leeds2 · 12/09/2014 22:23

Charlotte. But not Charlie,

Benchmark · 12/09/2014 23:04

I've always liked Bethany, definitely my favourite of your names. It's not particularly fashionable right now and perhaps a bit dated but it's do soft and Beth is a lovely nn. Dislike Bronte personally.

CromerSutra · 13/09/2014 00:48

I've never understood the name Imogen but I do know a lovely one. Pippa is lovely as are Charlotte and Bronte.

Toucanet · 13/09/2014 01:20

Not so keen on Pippa personally partly as makes me think of Pippa Middleton & quite girly. Generally names easily misspelt/with more than one way of spelling or pronouncing e.g. Philippa could be awkward. Likewise, Bronte or Brontë? Imogen, Charlotte & Bethany all more straightforward, just depends how they go with your middle/surname :)

TsukuruTazaki · 13/09/2014 01:26

Love pippa (not Philipa) Imogen and Charlotte. Bronte, not keen.

Sophronia · 13/09/2014 01:48

I like Philippa spelled this way, not keen on the rest.

Montsti · 13/09/2014 08:03

I love Charlotte nn. Lottie. Like Imogen. Dislike the others particularly Bronte - it sounds clunky and unfeminine.

zazie7 · 13/09/2014 10:21

I find Bronte pretentious. Like calling a child Austen or Dickens or something. The other names on your list are far better and have solid history of use as actual girls' names rather than a very unusual surname associated primarily with the writers. Charlotte is my favourite of your other choices but you can't go wrong with any of them, all are streets ahead of Bronte.

ashesandfire · 13/09/2014 12:49

I quite like Pippa but I'm not keen on Philippa yet I'd want a fuller name for the bc.
I'm not keen on Bronte. I think your other names are far classier.
I love Bethany, but I'm biased ;) we've had lots of compliments on her name and she'll be Beth when she's older.
I'm an Imogen and I love my name ;)
I also love Charlotte nn Lottie, it would be on my list if I had another dd.

TheNewStatesman · 13/09/2014 14:45

Bronte Saurus (Sorry).

All the rest are nice. I think Imogen is lovely.

pilates · 13/09/2014 17:29

Charlotte and Imogen are my favourites.
