Clarence

I heard of someone calling her baby boy this recently. I don't know of any other Clarences in real life, just in old books. Wondering what other people think of the name?

I like it because of Clarence Clemons and William VI, who was the Duke of Clarence before he was quite a funny and subversive king.

Clarence to me doesn't sound like a first name, more like a surname to me. Also I wouldn't know whether the person was a male or female. Is it a male version or Clara or is it a modern female version or Clara and Florence. Way too confusing for me.
