Blake for a girl?

I've had a lot of cats bum faces or "That's interesting!" with this name, it's not too weird is it? Or will my dd hate it when she grows up?

Why would you inflict a very masculine name on a girl? Aren't there enough girl's names?

EdithWeston · 05/09/2014 17:45

It's not a weird name for a boy. But I think it would be extremely weird for a girl.

Pickofthepops · 05/09/2014 17:45

I like it too ie Blake Lively Gossip Girl. But not brave enough to use it Hmm

Bowlersarm · 05/09/2014 17:45

No. Terrible.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 05/09/2014 17:45

I put names to a test of what would the jokers in my school have called someone, in this case probably "Blake the bloke".

birdofthenorth · 05/09/2014 21:05

Sorry OP, have you already called your DD Blake, or just run the idea past people? I like it but do prefer it for a boy.

TessOfTheFurbyvilles · 05/09/2014 21:07

All boy to me.

Mildpanic · 05/09/2014 21:11

Goodness no, I really wouldn't.
It is your choice obviously however you have asked for opinions so definitely not. There are so many lovely girls names, have a rethink please.

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 05/09/2014 21:32

Is she already named? If yes, um, it hasn't hurt Blake Lively.

If not, er, I wouldn't. It is definitely a boy's name here. Blake, Leighton, etc. Just why?

AmysTiara · 05/09/2014 22:11

I thought of Blake Lively too.

I like it for a boy but am not fussed for a girl. I dont like boys names for girls really.

CookieB · 05/09/2014 22:15

She hasn't been officially named yet but it is a name we both like as do her big ds and db. Fwiw we don't personally know any Blakes, boy or girl but do have connections in America who say its unisex! (Probably due to the admittedly gorgeous Blake Lovely)...ah well, thanks for your opinions anyway!

ShadowStar · 05/09/2014 22:16

It's a boy's name as far as I'm concerned.

okeydonkey · 05/09/2014 22:17

If you like it don't worry about other peoples opinions

EverythingCounts · 05/09/2014 22:21

I don't like it much for boys or girls, but particularly not for a girl. Sorry.

CookieB · 05/09/2014 22:22

I'm trying not to be bothered but don't want to saddle my beautiful girl with a name that makes others Confused. My other dc have names that ended up extremely popular so was looking for something unique but not too out there!

OP posts:
CookieB · 05/09/2014 22:24

Blake Lively that should say! Lovely as she is Grin.

MehsMum · 05/09/2014 22:24

No. It's the name of a boarding house at a private school I know of...

rocket74 · 05/09/2014 22:25

Really like it - used it as middle name for my DD x Grin

Galvanized · 05/09/2014 22:28

It's cringy and too "out there" for the UK, sorry.

TryingNotToLaugh · 05/09/2014 22:30

And when she's 7, everyone will spend the whole day saying Blake's Seven.

And she won't understand the joke.

it's too mean.

CookieB · 05/09/2014 22:31

Really Rocket? Apparently means dark haired? And she has a lot of that! She's only 1 week old but we're in Scotland so only another 14 days until she needs to be registered.

rocket74 · 05/09/2014 22:45

Yep! Don't know what all the anti is about! It just fit really well with our first name. And DD was born with a head of dark hair ...

CookieB · 05/09/2014 23:14

Had to google Blakes Seven there myself! Don't think she'll need to worry about that tbh as the inlaws would have brought that up already. They're not shy in expressing their opinion on even the most ordinary names so didn't really consider their views on this one.
"Lila?...Liiieee Laaaa?...isn't that just a NOISE?"
"Aidan?..Aidan and abetting?!"
These aren't my dc names, just some that have been suggested in the past by other family members over the years. Ruined so they were Hmm.

Sophronia · 06/09/2014 02:02

I can see it on a girl, but I don't like it much. It reminds me of the word 'bleak'.

EdithWeston · 06/09/2014 08:17

Blake's 7 was huge in the 1980s, and still going strong with sci-fi types.

I think the association will be made, and is OK for a boy.
