Im 5 days overdue and till a couple of days ago we had been planning to call the baby Annika (i love, dh doesnt) Annie for short (dh loves, im fine with it). But suddenly we are thinking of Kate. What do you think. Is Kate a nice name? I don't think it's common these days. Middle name would be Alice after both our grannies.

Kate.

I too am a Kate and I really like my name. It was suitable at all stages of my life.

I hear some names nowadays and am very grateful to my mum. Wink

It's not very common now either. It's a well known name but I doubt very much she would be one of 3 in her class etc.

I like them both, but I think Katherine goes better with Alice. I would use Katherine on the BC and Kate for short.

Annie is a nice name. Anya also

I have the same name as mumoftwoyoungkids DD mother is that you? and my mum adored it too!

I prefer Annie, but agree with what a PP said about Kate/Katherine being suitable for all stages. I've been Katie when I was little, Katherine for formal situations or to those I don't really like and Kate for, well, the rest of my life!

Edith is a lovely name. I know an Edith in her 20s and it suits her. Her friends call her Ed.

I have an Anna Catherine. She was to be Kate, but When she arrived she wasn't, so she became Anna instead. She is often called Annie.

I've said this before, but all Annas are beautiful and clever. So I'd go for Anna.

I have a DD called Catherine who we call Cate. Not sure why the C rather than a K but somehow seemed to make sense in terms of initials. It was DS who first wrote it as Cate and it sort of stuck. Hopefully it is a name she can grow up with as others have said. Her friends sometimes call her Catie too which is cute I think.

I also love Anna and Annabel (nn Annie or Belle) which is similarly classic and versatile. Not so sure about Annika though...

Belated but just wanted to say ooh I have a Catherine/Cate/Catie too. Never heard of another! I haven't come across many young Kates or C/Katherine's even though there are millions my age. I like Annie too but love Anna.

I think Kate is a nice nn but I've never been able to see it as a name in its own right. Katia?
And I think Kate Alice sounds a bit weird. Alice Kate is a lot nicer.

I think Annika's okay, but I definitely prefer Annie to Kate either way. I'm thinking of using an An- name myself. Not sure about Annika Alice though :P If I were you I'd be in a bit of a predicament :P

Any chance of using Alice as the first name?

I'm a Kate Elizabeth! I like my name, if that helps Grin
