My DH & I have just found out we are expecting a girl. We had a name set in stone for a boy that we both love but just cant decide on a girl. All opinions welcome. So here is our list so far:

Orla : We both like this although the more I say it the more I think it sounds too much like Oral

Cissy : (in memory of my nan) we are both fond of this but I'm a bit worried it's a bit 'wussy' sounding.

Penelope : DH loves this...i'm not 100%

Ottilie : I really like this but concerned it's becoming quite popular

Bodhi : My inner hippie loves this but aware that a new point break is coming out next year so again could become quite common. Also, when I've mentioned the name to others they look confused

Liberty : Really love this although we have one in the family so not sure I can claim it

Marlowe : Again we both like it but not quite sure

This name picking lark is quite a responsibility - we may well stick to baby girl.

I really like Orla and Ottilie - I only know of one Ottilie and she's 15 so it's not popular everywhere. Also love Liberty - how close is the one in the family? If it is only a distant relative who you don't see too often then I don't think it's that big a deal.

Liberty is my half sister's daughter. I see my step sister once in a blue moon but not sure it's right. It's one of my faves as nn could be either libby or bertie and like both of those.

Penelope or Cissy....unless you are Irish then Orla sounds less like 'Oral'

Orla - I don't like this, I think it has a harsh, unpleasant sound
Cissy - said like Sissy? Not keen.
Penelope - it's ok. Penny is cute.
Ottilie - like it. I've never met one.
Bodhi - never heard this. How do you say it. Boh-dee?
Liberty - like it
Marlowe - sounds quite masculine to me but I like it. I think.

I think I'd choose Liberty from your list.

I love Cissy, Orla and Penelope. Cool and stylish.

I've never got on with Ottilie, I know it's well loved here, but I find it a bit cutesy. Liberty seems a little dated - it was popular about 20 years ago. Marlowe is cool - i know a little boy Marlow too.

Yes Bodhi is pronounced Bo-dee. I also like Elsa or ILsa. If anyone has got similar suggestions would live to hear them ; )

I've also only seen Bodhi used as a boys name.

I think Liberty is the best from your list and the nn Libby is sweet.

Bodhi and Ottilie are gorgeous, id choose ottilie

Ottilie is very pretty and really like Penelope from your list too

Cissy is sweet - makes me think of Sissy Spacek (maybe showing my age here!)

I know a few Bodhi's but all of them are boys...

Just to warn you, if you go for Ilsa be prepared for everyone to assume you mean Isla or Lisa (bitter experience) much better if you spell it Ilse.
From your list I like them all except Penelope, can't get past pit stop.

How about Cecilia, Frances, Priscilla or Cynthia with Cissy as a nickname?

Bodhi, Marlowe and Ottilie are great too. Wonderful names :)

Orla: quite popular here in Scotland. It's ok if a little meh.

Ottilie: prettier written down than when said, I think. Depending on accent, it can sound like otterly or utterly.

Cissy. Sounds a bit frilly. How about Cecily?

Bohdi: very masculine. Was it not a character from Point Break?!

Marlowe: lovely! Named after Kit? Great namesake if so (this is why DS1s middle name is Kit).

Penelope. Not a fan personally, but even if I liked the name, I too would think Pitstop.

Oops! Pressed send too soon! Liberty is lovely. I wouldn't worry too much about family or friends having the same name. Discuss it with her to see if she has any objections (just as a courtesy really).

I like Elsa, can you still name girls that or are you condemning them to having a lifetime of having let it go sung at them? (Am interested on my own account as on the list for dd2 too!). On a similar sound Ailsa is lovely, but too similar to dd1 name for us...

From your list proper, I don't think you can use a name that your parents have a grandchild called already - sorry a vote no for liberty for me.

I love bodhi too, but it is a shortening of bodhisattva which means 'englightened being' in Tibetan Buddhism (that is a rubbish précis see here en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodhisattva). Which might give the child an awful lot to live up too... Having said that I nearly named dd1 after a manifestation of Parvati... So not one to judge.

Isn't Bodhi usually used as a boy's name. Or is it just that the 2 unknown of are boys?
