Our short list is too short (Frej or Ludo) any suggestions?

Ds2 is going to be born in a matter of weeks and we really have not come up with a name that feels "right" yet.

Idealy I'd like a list of 5-10 names that I like and then pick a name from the list, but the problem is so far we have 2 names, neither of which feels like a definate yes.

The names are

-Frej (said "frey" in English, he is the norse got of fertility and fair weather)
-Ludo (we are focusing on it being latin for "to play" as me and dp met on a computor game so it would be fitting, also I think that a name connected to playing would be lovely for a child)

The names we like but can't use are

-Rowan - a close family memeber already has this name.
-Jasper - We live in Sweden and it would be pronounced yesperrr or yasperrr.
-rafferty - Dp doesn't like this name, I love it.
-Sylvester/sylvan - dp's ex is called Sylvia, he feels it would be like naming the baby after her.

Ds1 is called ELvin which means elf friend and 11th (he is the 11th grandchild and I called him elfie when he was in my tummy, he was very nearly called elfie)

Any ideas at all? This poor baby is going to be baby no name for a long time!

Both are lovely. My fav. is Ludo. I think there was a thread recently about Frej where the link to the, ahem, well endowed fertility god was noted. It was pointed out that if you google images Frej you get lots of pictures of a god with a ginormous willy. I'm not sure it would bother me but some posters felt strongly about it.

That was me! I decided it wasn't such a concern as the godess Freja is also often depicted in a... umm ... compromising situation and there are still lots of people called Freja.

I am a little hesitant about Frej because of the way it is pronounced, it just doesn't feel natural for me to say it.

We are going through a test period of calling the baby Frej to see if I can get used to saying the name out loud, it isn't going great so far.

A slight problem with Ludo is that it is a made up name in Sweden, there are no other Ludos and I'm not sure we would actually be allowed to call a child Ludo, you have to apply to have the name aproved if it isn't on the name list, on the pluss side the game ludo is called something different in Swedish!

I like Ludo!

Probably way off the mark but I also really love Rufus.

. Well, it really wouldn't bother me either. I think Frej is a great name and I don't think its tricky to pronounce. The more I say it the more I like it.

I used to sail a boat called Sif after another Norse god so I think I have a soft spot for names like that.

A quick look here shows that Ludvig was in the top 20 for boys in Sweden last year - if Ludo isn't approved could you go with Ludvig with the nickname Ludo?

As for suggestions, how about Cai, Emil or Linus?

I love Sylvan, it is my brothers name and he is a pretty cool dude. Sylvanus is a nice variant.

How about Vincent or Inigo?
Sixten is a secret favourite of mine that crops up in Scandinavian names!

What about Ludvic. (ludovic/Ludwig/Ludvig) I love that name but I thought it was a bit 'out there' for us.

I love the name ludvig but dps cousin has a dc called Ludvig, he also has cousins called Linus, Elias and Tobias which would be possible options otherwise.

I didn't know it was so popular in Sweden. I thought it was German.

Soren for a boy??

Soren is a lovely name, I'll suggest it to dp. I think Ludwig is a German name, annoying that it's already taken!

I love Ludo, it was on my list along with Jasper.

We also had Felix, Alexander and Sebastian (and a collection of Welsh names you probably aren't so interested in).

Felix is lovely, another one to consider!

I love Ludo and Jasper. If you can't use Jasper, how about Casper? Or Jago, Arlo, Milo....

Or Jesper?

I like the sound of Frej, but child would be condemned to a life-time of butchered pronunciations.

If that name popped up on my new class register for instance, my first attempt would probably be something like Fre-j (rhyming almost with fridge).

If I badly wanted to use that name and keep the pronunciation correct, I'd spell it Frey or Fray.

Ludo is fab!

I love Otto, dp says it reminds him of a German army general in the war, but I had never heard of him, it's not like calling a child adolf!

Also Kit, which is one I've seen a few times recently - brilliant name. And, along the same lines, Kim for a boy.

Good grief! Are you not worried about bullying?? Why not wait until you meet your new child and then think about what suits them?

I'm not worried about bullying, we live in quite a multicultural area and our dc will most probably go to quite an alternative school so a child named Oliver is probably more likely to stick out than a child named Ludo, Frej or Elvin.
