hlc123 · 18/08/2014 11:12

Lara is my favourite but like Elin and Niamh too

Lunastarfish · 18/08/2014 11:17

Lara is my fave but I think Niamh Frances sounds good

Bowlersarm · 18/08/2014 11:18

Lara

Leeds2 · 18/08/2014 11:38

Elin, Niamh, Lara.

But I would probably choose Ellen, as I think Elin might be spelled as Ellen regardless.

Lara.

Niamh is ok but too popular for me, don't know if popularity bothers you?

Lara is my favourite.

weegiemum · 18/08/2014 15:20

I don't normally like Lara (knew a pretty bitchy one at uni) but Lara Frances sounds lovely.

Is Elin a local spelling of Ellen or different? I love Ellen but can see that some folk might think you'd just spelled it wrong. Elaine is similar as well, I love it.

Paddingtonthebear · 18/08/2014 15:25

Elin the Welsh and Scandinavian variant of Helen.

weegiemum · 18/08/2014 15:28

Ok, thanks that's interesting. The Scottish/Gaelic equivalent would be Eilidh (ay-Lee).

ralinax294 · 18/08/2014 15:34

Niamh is my favourite but I like both Lara and Elin too, all lovely names.

HattyMonkey · 18/08/2014 15:37

Elin, Niamh, Lara

crumpet · 18/08/2014 15:37

I am not sure how to pronounce Elin - e.g. "Ellen, "Eeelin" or "Aylin"?

daheedsgirl · 18/08/2014 16:37

We are in Wales so it's as paddington says, the welsh variant of Helen. I've always pronounced it with emphasis on the i. So E-lin :-)
Thanks for all your replies x

Please don't go for Elin. Too many mispronounced to on issues. Elin becomes Erin, Ellen, Helen...

Lara is lively.

Also love weegie suggestion of Elaine.

How about...

Eleni?
Eleri?
Elora?
Nola?
Noula?

florascotia · 18/08/2014 18:04

As well as weegiemum's Elaine, there is also the Scottish Alayne.

I know a couple of really nice people with that name.

All (along with Ellen, Eilidh etc) are versions of Helen.

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 18:05

Elin is lovely and if your in wales I can't see why you will have any issues.
