Khaleesi is the 18th most popular baby girl's name in the US.

HolgerDanske · 12/08/2014 00:24

Oh I dread to think of the glut of GoT names that will be along in the next few years...

But if you like the name that's all that matters, really.

RainbowB7 · 12/08/2014 00:29

Victor is a great name. Arya makes me think aryan. I don't watch GOT so don't know if the connection there is good or bad!

MollyAir · 12/08/2014 00:33

Unless you've read the books, it would be hard to say how Arya turns out - and actually there's one still being written, isn't there?

I hadn't thought of the Aryan connection - that would put me right off. So it's a no from me. Try Khaleesi. Wink

Victor is a fantastic name. Arya I think will date terribly because of the GoT connection: it sounds pretty bit I'd never heard of it as a name until the books/TV series became well known. I'd avoid it god that reason, to be honest - I think 2014's Arya will be 1988's Kylie.

Onedropoflove · 12/08/2014 11:18

Is Arya a made up name?

A bit... Fuhrer-ish.

sallievp · 12/08/2014 11:31

Arya is a popular name in India...but generally used for a boy. although i do know one girl Arya. Not a made up name.

UriGeller · 12/08/2014 11:34

So, What you're writing is "Arya" but what I'm hearing is saying is "Area"

charlyn · 12/08/2014 15:12

I prefer Arya spelt Aria

squoosh · 12/08/2014 16:19

Game of Thrones names (see also LOTR, Doctor Who, Star Wars names) make me cringe to be honest.

I’m coming round to Victor’s charms though.

princeofdenmark · 13/08/2014 19:36

arya is a real name, it also can be spelt aria, as pp said.

callipygian00 · 13/08/2014 20:19

I'd go for Aria rather than Arya - didn't think of the Aryan connection myself, but still... Apparently Aria means 'lioness' in Hebrew but I think most people would just think of it's musical meaning (a solo song), which is quite nice.

callipygian00 · 13/08/2014 20:21

Maybe I was pronouncing Arya wrongly? I was thinking Ary-a as in Harry-a as opposed to area?

BackspaceEnter · 14/08/2014 13:58

Arya makes me think of Hitler and Nazis.

I would spell it Aria. Like that it's a lovely name.

chaya5738 · 14/08/2014 14:50

Arya also makes me think of Aryan (ie: Nazi ideology). If you love it, then spell it Aria.

dreamingofwineandcheese · 14/08/2014 21:24

I met a little boy called Victor the other day and was surprised by how much I liked it, quite a cool name I think.

I also like the name Arya, although I'm a massive GoT fan I couldn't name my daughter that. It's a bit to obviously after that character regardless of where it originated. GoT is so popular at the moment I think most people will just make that connection.

Linguaphile · 15/08/2014 14:25

Victor was on our boy list (not any longer as we've already used a 'V' name for our daughter!) as it was DH's grandfather's name. Love it, very dignified.

aubreye · 15/08/2014 22:27

I prefer Vincent to Victor but I love Arya!!!

AliciaBotty · 16/08/2014 15:07

What's GoT?
