Hugo.

My DP is called David but he started going by Dave when he went to university. His mum stubbornly refuses to call him Dave and is the only one who calls him David now. I think I would be doing the same in her shoes - I like the name David but have to admit, (sorry DP) that I would not want a baby called "Dave". I have it as DS's middle name though!

I actually prefer Hugo to Henry. It's nice and distinctive and I don't really buy into the whole 'old fashioned' or 'royal' craze which I see Henry as being a part of.

I'd pick Henry, though it is the most popular.

David, no as I could not stand Dave.

Hugo a bit too posh, I'd want a more understated posh name if I was going posh!

I'd go for Daniel instead of David. David Cameron is just one of a long line of Daves I can't stand.

CallMeACab · 16/08/2014 15:29

Not Hugo. It sounds like an exhalation of breath. Also makes me want to say "Hugo, no Hugo, no, please Hugo first." Maybe I'm odd.

I like David but not Dave, how about William or Rory?

sandberry · 16/08/2014 15:49

Hugo is technically the least popular on the current name stats but climbing fast.
I would go for David though because it has the best meaning.

ODearMe · 16/08/2014 15:55

Henry

aubreye · 16/08/2014 17:00

Am I the only one who loves Hugo the most?

bakinggood · 16/08/2014 17:07

I like both David and Henry but not keen on Hugo at all.

Desertrunner · 16/08/2014 17:17

Hugo. Fabulous.
Although I may be biased!

Topsyloulou · 16/08/2014 17:20

Hugo for me too. David will become Dave as soon as he is an adult if not before. It's a lovely name & we're having it as a middle name but Dave is inevitable.

What about Hugh if you're not convinced by Hugo?

florascotia · 16/08/2014 17:37

In Scotland, David often becomes 'Davie'/'Davy' even for grown men. I rather like it.
And Scotland had a very famous and admired King David, so the vibe up here may be rather different....
