Friend taking name! Help (was Marley)

westie40 · 06/08/2014 11:31

I am due after my friend and had decided on Marley for a boy, but didn't say anything. My friend is due first and told me last week she is having Marley! Not much I can do - she did say it first!

I also like (but not as much :-():
Dexter
Finn
Sonny
Milo

But I wanted to ask for more suggestions as the ones above I don't like AS much so am not swayed.

Can anyone help...?

That is to say, I'm not too keen on Dexter, Finn, or Milo, and especially not keen on Sonny.

Felix or is that too much of a cat name?

No seriously I love Felix.

This happened to us. We loved Annie. Then two friends had DDs before ours was born, one choose Annie and one choose Anna.

We chose something else. There are so many names out there you may find another onerous love.

Marley is a dogs name. Your better of without it.

My friend wanted to call her son Luke - we did too, but she had her son before we had ours. She was lovely and didn't call her DS Luke. But then we didn't either.
Now 18 years later, we never see each other.
I have 2 points really. My wanting the name wasn't more valid than her wanting the name - she was obviously a better friend than me. You most likely won't always be living near each other.
Call your son Marley if you want too, so can she.

I know a girl called Marley so consider it more of a girls name.

I much prefer Harley for a boy.

Sorry, that last message was aimed at "Trollsworth".

She is my best friend and we will always be friends (I'm godmother to her son) so there's no way we could have the same name.

Thanks for the suggestions, there are a couple of good ones, although I'm still not loving any as much.

I've not seen that film, nor am I likely to, but see many people relate it to a dog. But when the child grows up that film will be forgotten - not exactly a classic. :)

I don't know I'm having a boy yet, so yes, it could all be resolved. But want to get to love a name soon in case.

Any more suggestions most welcome.

Thanks

There are loads of lovely names, I'd go for another name.

I love Dexter - ace name, and if there's any serial killer you'd want to be named after, Dexter would be the one. Finn is great too, although I might go for Finlay/Finbar on bc to give more options. Not keen on Sonny and Milo is ok, although I prefer Miles.

Based on your list, other possibilities...
Leonard (Leo/Lenny)
Spencer (Spence)
Harris
Harley
Carlson (Carl)
Alexander (Zander)
Flynn
Lincoln

Marley and Me may not be a classic - but A Christmas Carol by Dickens is, and in that Jacob Marley was Ebenezer Scrooge's former boss, condemned to wear chains in hell for all eternity for the way he treated people when he was alive.... Confused

That book hasn't been forgotten in a couple of hundred YEARS, they show at least one film version of it every Christmas, Muppets one is my favourite. It's not going to be forgotten.

Arlo is nice Smile

Forget the 'it's a dogs name' malarkey. Confused My DS's were named after actual DOGS. One was my Aunties dog and one my nieghbours dog . I loved both the dogs and I loved the names too.

If they are both boys and grow up together I think you should call yours Hendrix. They'll be such a cool pair :)

I like all the names on your list. I don't think of Marley as a dogs name, probably because I know a Marley.

Mind you, I've got a Barney and I know far more dogs than people called Barney!
