Checklist when picking a baby name

Must only have one generally accepted spelling
Must not be Kre8tivly spelled
Must be obvious how to pronounce it
Must not be too similar to sibling name
Preferably not commonly used for pets names
Preferably not used elsewhere in close family unless it's a tradition
Generally not begin with K with a few exceptions
Must not be a serial killer's or other bad role model name
Preferably not be a double flower name
Preferably not hyphenated
And definitely not too popular

My DD's name does not pass this checklist!

I've never heard objection to double flower name (Lilly Rose anyone?)

It helps if name is culturally appropriate. French names only if family is French - that kind of thing

Initials must not spell rude words eg Arthur Richard Smith

Swannykazoo · 27/07/2014 21:53

Must not lead to hundreds of scabby heided wains running up to you if shouted in Asda on s Sat afternoon

GermyJamie · 27/07/2014 21:55

Not a surname unless you are Scottish.

bugoven · 28/07/2014 00:28

What about fictional serial killers? =/

GermyJamie · 28/07/2014 05:59

Dexter appears to be allowed!

Dexter is NOT allowed.

DD passes this list with flying colours...... but we call her something else Grin

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 28/07/2014 10:55

Must not be from a different language. Even if you live in the country that speaks the language and will be raising your child to speak the language, it must be English. If not, you're inconsiderate and setting your child up to be hated by English people.

I was told off on here for planning to give my Welsh daughter, who will be raised in Wales, speaking Welsh, educated in Welsh... a Welsh name Shock

ShovettyMcShovetty · 28/07/2014 12:41

Shocking Moomin! What were you thinking?! Grin

AuntieStella · 28/07/2014 13:02

Must pass the crystal ball test

(ie it mustn't become wildly popular at any point in your DC's childhood and ideally lifetime, nor be used on any UK soap character or in any major US show).

burgatroyd · 28/07/2014 16:08

Not a stripper's name...

ChanelNumber19 · 28/07/2014 16:10

I thought mf dd's name could only be spelled one way. I was wrong.

burgatroyd · 28/07/2014 16:37

Dd2 has a kr8tively spelled name, as suggested by mn!

bugoven · 28/07/2014 23:22

I have loved the name for 10 years. I have never watched an episode nor have the majority of my friends and family.
