can Florence go with our surname?

Florence is a favourite name for me. But our surname is Stokes.

Do you think Florence Stokes has too many 's' sounds, or is difficult to say? She will have middle names, but of course when called by her full name it will really be the first name and last name that get spoken.

I think it's fine. Lovely name Smile

EthicalPickle · 26/07/2014 15:34

Well, there are plenty of other FLORENCE Stokes
I think it sounds really nice. Both names are nice and strong but Florence still softens your surname.

You can anagram it to Soonest Freckle or Restock oneself

Sorry, I can't help anagramming names. Grin

BikeRunSki · 26/07/2014 15:41

It's fine

It has never crossed my mind to anagram a name!

ABlandAndDeadlyCourtesy · 26/07/2014 15:51

It is a few "s" sounds - how about Flora Stokes?

BreeVDKamp · 26/07/2014 15:52

Ooh I want to anagram my name but don't have the mind for it!
Florence Stokes is lovely OP

It does a bit but is a lovely name.
If you're not too keen alternative:
Fleur?

ralinax294 · 27/07/2014 00:15

I don't think it would be a problem, and Florence is a beautiful name so go for it :)

EugenesAxe · 27/07/2014 00:31

I'm with you really - you need a lot of mouth shimmying to make them distinct, although I reckon most people would apply the 's' to both names if they heard it spoken.

Pedantically speaking though, you risk her name being Floren Stokes or Florence Tokes. Our surname starts 'ch' - I vetoed many of my favourite names ending in a hard consonant, like D or T, for the same reason.

lettertoherms · 27/07/2014 00:34

I like it, it sounds nice.

or go with Soonest Freckle

temporaryusername · 27/07/2014 00:39

I like the name Florence. Seems like consensus is so far that you should go for it!

I must admit I do find it quite difficult to say, it somehow doesn't come out right. But then I have a slight lisp, so it is a hard one for me!
