What do you think of Cameron?

We have the girls name chiseled in stone (Sophie)

But a bit of a debate going on about the boys name at the minute. I'm not sure of one. However dh LOVES Cameron for a boy.

I'm in two minds. I kind of like it. But then I've also associated the name with David Cameron for some reason and it's putting me off. ( not that I dislike him that much really)

I know boys and girls called Cameron. I would associate it with the current PM, but who knows if the Tories lose the election he will get booted out and no one will even think of him in a couple of years.

SlicedAndDiced · 23/07/2014 09:47

Thanks HP, that was dp's reasoning too Smile

Tory PM, booooo.
I also once taught a really not-very-nice Cameron so that puts me off.
Love Sophie!

This name association is a pain when picking names isn't it! Grin

David has forever spoiled this name

squoosh · 23/07/2014 10:33

The Camerons I know are all a bit weedy.

ShovettyMcShovetty · 23/07/2014 14:23

Don't like. Will always think of David.

Theonlyoneiknow · 23/07/2014 15:00

I really like it. You could associate any name with someone if you tried hard enough. I know a couple of boys called Cameron, and one girl (but I am in Scotland).

weatherall · 23/07/2014 16:00

I nearly called DS this.

So glad I didn't!

I have enough reminders of dc's reign in my house.

I wouldn't use it until he's been forgotten.

Thanks guys, you've given voice to things I was thinking.

Will be a bit firmer on this then Grin

I know a Cameron, he's quite weedy and geeky. Very nice bloke, but has a penchant for beige trousers.

needsomenamehelp1 · 24/07/2014 12:50

Yeah I just think of David, sorry :-( and even when he gets booted out I think he'll still be remembered unfortunately - if you think of Gordon, Tony etc...even Blair actually, I know someone with a daughter by that name and that was my first thought so you can't necessarily think that the association will disappear just because he's not PM anymore…

Although "Cam" makes me think of Cam from Modern Family and he's brilliant so there is that!

(I like to try to be balanced haha!)

ACM88 · 24/07/2014 13:01

Yes it does make me think of him, however, as a pp said, you could find an association for most names. Someone said to me I like the name Ester, my first thought (ranzen). So bear in mind it may be peoples first reaction, but don't let it put you off if you love it!

SlicedAndDiced · 24/07/2014 13:04

It's dp that loves it Smile

I've said not really for pretty much the reasons above. All I can think of is David (eugh that sounds a bit wrong)

It would have been on my list, had it not been for a close relative whose name is Cameron - it's a lovely name.

I don't think David Cameron should cause you to avoid using the name he'll be gone next year hopefully .

fattycow · 24/07/2014 14:09

I know a Cameron. Lovely guy and I would never associate him with David Cameron.

Gingerjv · 24/07/2014 19:25

I like a lot this name! Cameron - really good!

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/07/2014 22:10

I know a Cameron, he's late teens. Is lovely and not at all weedy!
