We're having DD2 in December and Stella was a name I liked first time round but we picked Lola as that was my all time favourite.

Now that I know we're having another girl Stella is back on my radar - sometimes I look at it and think it's really pretty whereas other times I think it could be a bit harsh? I do think it has a bit of personality though IYKWIM!!

Would love to know opinions Smile

Estelle I like, but all the Stellas I've ever known have been rather scary, shouty matriarchs.

AuntieStella · 23/07/2014 08:50

I think it's between difficult and unusable, depending on where you live.

I chose it as a deliberate lager reference, which is fine for a user name, but not for a person.

And I don't think the lager will ever totally lose the "wife beater" association.

AuntieStella · 23/07/2014 08:53

(Sorry, bit strident there - I think it's fine or a user name, and no-one has ever made comments here other than to share the joke about about the alcohol, so I've assumed OK all round).

littlepickly · 23/07/2014 08:54

DH says he totally can't get past the beer reference!!

And yes I have memories of a battleaxe Stella from my youth!!

But if you disassociate it from those things it's quite pretty....no?! Smile

I used to love this name. Didn't use it on my dd in the end as other names took over, but would have gone for Estelle or Estella rather than Stella, then pos used Stella as a nn

Sundaedelight · 23/07/2014 15:16

I love Stella and would be very tempted to use it if the opportunity arose!

MummyBeerest · 23/07/2014 15:20

I love the name Stella. I live in a hipster area and it's very popular, but I love it still.

You could yell her name so dramatically!

JessieEssex · 23/07/2014 15:21

Not mad on Stella - how about Celeste?

Angelto5 · 23/07/2014 15:23

My dm has a good friend called Stella & she is lovely. So it only has nice associations for me.

maggiethemagpie · 23/07/2014 15:45

I'm trying to get the stella -celeste connection, and not finding it

weatherall · 23/07/2014 15:55

I really like it but I'd use Estella as the bc name because of the lager connotations.

Annoyed they used such a good name!

wigglesrock · 23/07/2014 16:19

I absolutely love it. The lager connection isn't that big where I am. I think it's a beautiful name & the nicest girl I went to school with was called it Smile

gertiegusset · 23/07/2014 16:21

Wife beater innit?

NadiaWadia · 23/07/2014 20:11

Stella is lovely. It's a shame about the lager but presumably the brand won't be made for ever? Or you could use Estella, also lovely, not that it makes much difference I suppose. Estelle is not so nice, IMO.

Bowlersarm · 23/07/2014 20:13

Yes, I'm a fan.

Or Tessa, I think is the same type of name.

myotherusernameisbetter · 23/07/2014 20:47

I like Stella and I know a very elegant young one - My OH liked it but it rhymed with our surname and we had boys anyway. He did have a hankering for twins, Stella & Artois. I think hope he was joking.

Guin1 · 24/07/2014 05:23

It's quite similar to your other DD's name - Lola and Stella. Is that intentional? Personally, I find it a bit harsh. If you like the star connection then Celeste is softer.

burgatroyd · 24/07/2014 06:12

Oh its irritating sharing your name with a product or thing but its no big deal either!

BikeRunSki · 24/07/2014 06:48

My niece is called Stella.
The larger comments stopped after a couple of weeks.
Now my overriding association with the name is of her.

RAFWife12 · 24/07/2014 06:53

My grandmothers name. She is an amazing lady. Therefore I have only positive associations with the name.
If you love it - use it!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 24/07/2014 06:56

It is intrinsically linked to the lager for me and neither dh or I even drink it. I love the name Blythe but live near a town of that name so have had to veto that.

Lola and Stella are very llllllll names together. Lola is very girly too, where as Stella sounds quite brass or bold in comparison.

However, it is your dd Grin so as long as both you and DH like it then go for it.

MaudantWit · 24/07/2014 06:59

It's a lovely name and was our near-miss name for DD. I never really associate it with the beer and that wasn't a factor in our decision to go with our first choice name.

nasara · 24/07/2014 13:22

Stella was on our list for dd1 and dd2 but, lager aside, it just didn't feel right - I couldn't help thinking that it sounded like 'smeller/smelly', but that is probably me just being a bit odd!

Great meaning, though.

squoosh · 24/07/2014 13:51

Stella is nice but is a little bit brash, Estelle is lovely.

HaroldLloyd · 24/07/2014 13:53

I love this name, however I also love the lager and it just makes me worried that people would think I named the baby after my favourite lager.
