Of Aurora for a girl? With Rory for short?

Princess Aurora aka sleeping beauty! I always loved the name though, was more after the northern lights I guess than Disney...

BreeVDKamp · 22/07/2014 21:38

Oh! Wow I never knew she was an Aurora.

Stretchmarksarethenewblack · 22/07/2014 21:40

As a huge Gilmore girls fan I love Rory for a girl x

stickygotstuck · 22/07/2014 21:43

BreeVDKamp, glad to see I am not the only one who only found out later in life!

JellyMould · 22/07/2014 21:43

I love it

MollySolverson · 22/07/2014 21:46

Surely people's first thought would be Aurora Borealis, rather than some Disney thing?!

myotherusernameisbetter · 22/07/2014 21:51

Aurora always makes me think of the sound of a dog chewing a toffee - sorry :(

And there are far fewer boys names than girls for a start, so please leave some for the parents of boys to use as it's not like they can do the same and get into a boy named Sue scenario

ZenNudist · 22/07/2014 21:52

Terrible sorry

ChanelCristalle · 22/07/2014 21:55

oh no!

I like rory for a boy but it's horrible for a girl. I don't like Aurora either. That's hard to say. my lips stick out like marge simpsons when I say "aurora"

LauraChant · 22/07/2014 22:07

For me, Aurora is the independent , dungaree wearing Danish little girl heroine of Hallo Aurora and Aurora and The Little Blue Car, so I really like it. (Her brother was called Socrates, can you imagine the Baby Names thread there?).

And I can't see the problem with Rory - Jacky, Harry, Charlie etc are all boys names that are short for longer girl's names.

rockybalboa · 22/07/2014 22:12

I met a little girl called Rory recently. I have a DS called Rory and couldn't work out what her name was short for (if anything). Pretty name if not slightly confusing.

MollyBdenum · 22/07/2014 22:19

I loved the Aurora books, too, LauraChant. And The Changeover which got Sorensen on the boys' names long list.

LauraChant · 22/07/2014 22:21

Wow, Molly, double yay! I have never met anyone else who has read the Aurora books and I am on a ceaseless mission to get someone to name a child Sorensen.

Lovely - hate the Disney link though. It was on our list!

Superrhan · 23/07/2014 09:30

I think it's very pretty and I love Rory for a girl.

Although, I love boys names on girls, which is why I struggle to like boys names, as I always think they would be better on a girl (examples: Elijah, Elliott, Ryan... Are they not just adorable girls' names!)

Big thumbs up from me.

florascotia · 23/07/2014 12:19

Before Disney and ballet, Aurora was originally the Roman goddess of dawn. Roman poets called her 'rosy-fingered', after the rays of the rising sun.

mupperoon · 23/07/2014 12:40

Aurora is lovely!

GregorysGirl18 · 23/07/2014 12:42

I love it! Think I'd go for shortening it to Rora rather than Rory but I do like it either way

NadiaWadia · 24/07/2014 05:09

Aurora is pretty (could be unfortunate if she can't pronounce her 'r's, though). But Rory is a boy's name.

ExitPursuedByAKoalaBear · 24/07/2014 05:15

Lovely name.

Never understand why people 'choose' a nickname though.

Anotherchair · 24/07/2014 05:16

Very nice name

JadeJ123 · 24/07/2014 05:19

Lovely name Smile

KoalaDownUnder · 24/07/2014 05:23

I quite like it. And I'd think of the goddess, or Aurora Borealis, not a Disney princess!

Don't like Rory for a nickname, though.

I didn't realise Disney princesses were such a big thing outside the US, but then again I don't have any little girls...
