What do you think of Billy as a name on its own rather than a nickname for William?

I like Billy but not William

Nice name but better IMO to call him William and shorten it to billy as it's a bit of a little boys name for a grown man.

I prefer Billy to William.

But if I heard it I'd assume it was a girl called Billie.
