Just had my daughter and she is a sister to Alice. Trying to decide on names. Originally I liked Charlotte and Elizabeth but DH thinks too popular. So any ideas? I also like Beatrix and husband has come up with Niamh. We are constructing lists and will go thru together Grin

Alice is lovely and a hard act to follow I think.

Elizabeth and Catherine/Katherine are both classics with lots of nickname potential. Beatrice or Beatrix goes well with it I think.

Or perhaps

Eleanor
Penelope

I really like Charlotte and Niamh. Not keen on Elizabeth or Beatrix (slightly prefer Beatrice).

Congratulations! Beatrix is lovely, ditto Elizabeth. Charlotte and Niamh both really nice names but am not so keen on them personally. Harriet and Rose are very pretty.

Re popularity, Charlotte is no 20, Elizabeth 38, Niamh = 84, Beatrix not in the top 100. Harriet is 67, Rose is 78 (Rosie is 48).
These figures are for 2012 England and Wales; 2013 statistics due out next month (August).

But as others have said, even a popular name does not actually mean a very large number of babies (except perhaps for no 1 = in 2012 that was Amelia, given to over 7000). The range of names for girls is so wide. There were only just over 2000 baby Charlottes in all England and Wales in 2012.

nowitscleanugobshite · 16/07/2014 19:17

I like the alphabetical thing you've got going on OP. A for Alice. B for Beatrix!! Very 7 brides for 7 brothers!! Both beautiful names. Very nice!!

elvislives2012 · 16/07/2014 21:39

Thanks all! We are going for Niamh! And Elizabeth as a middle name Grin
