down to two...

we're down to two names, baby due imminently!

Toren and Winston.

love them both, but cannot decide for the life of me. both go equally well with our surname. Winston would probably be nn Win, and Toren may be nn Ren.

made the mistake of telling my mother and she's now pushing Winston because she's never heard of Toren and it's throwing me off.

Sorry for spelling error. 'Pronounded' should be 'pronounced', of course.

MilkandCereal · 10/07/2014 15:58

Torin is very nice, but Winston is dreadful.

Gingerjv · 10/07/2014 19:50

I like Toren more!

florascotia · 10/07/2014 20:54

Ginger Anyone can spell any name any way they like, and good luck to them. But it would not be accurate to say that "Toren is gaelic" - any more than it would be to say that Jain is the same as Jane.

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/07/2014 21:01

Torin is lovely. Winston, not so much. Though it was good enough for Mr Elba when naming his new baby!

maggiethemagpie · 12/07/2014 16:27

Toren. Winston sounds very stuffy, not sure it's due for a revival yet.

zazie7 · 12/07/2014 16:54

I'm not a big fan of either, sorry. I like Soren, that might appeal as similar to Toren? I find Winston overwhelmingly associated with Churchill and would prefer not to give my kids a name that was associated primarily with one person. Torin is ok but Toren just sounds made-up.

weatherall · 12/07/2014 17:46

I've never heard of toren before.

Seeing it I'd pronounce it rhyming with foreign.

Winston is too Churchill- could result in car insurance type teasing.

rachel234 · 14/07/2014 08:21

Winston is cool and due a revival! People only associate it with Churchill because he's the only Winston they know of. Once they meet a cute little Winston they'll associate it with him!

fattycow · 14/07/2014 11:18

Winston for me. Toren means 'tower' in Dutch, so I would forever associate it with that.

turdfairynomore · 14/07/2014 12:03

Where I come from in NI any Winston would be instantantly given the nn winky! Don't ask me why!? It just "is"!!! So not Winston for me!! Team torin!

TheLeftovermonster · 14/07/2014 12:11

Toren (or Torin).

Oriunda · 14/07/2014 14:12

Winston because I don't know the other name.

Gingerjv · 14/07/2014 16:29

florascotia, mommy asked about names Toren and Winston, so i answered) I did not take any part in conversation about right spelling;-) I just answered to nyldn;-)

crazylady321 · 14/07/2014 22:27

Ive not heard of Toren before but I prefer it to Winston sorry

LynetteScavo · 14/07/2014 22:33

I would have pronounced Toren like Soren, with an O sound. (I know a Soren, and people do sometimes think it's girls name Hmm)

I love Winston. Smile

Provencalroseparadox · 14/07/2014 22:36

I really like both
