I ask as my son is called Daniel and my husband keeps pointing out that it's often a chavkid name. I love it and always have. I wanted a baby boy called Daniel since I was a kid myself and don't really care what DH says but thought I would canvas opinion...

Tantrums.. Spot on

TooSpotty · 08/07/2014 14:31

The Danny I know is a medical consultant. The Dan I know is an Oxford professor.

Daniel is a lovely solid name.

Chav is a bad word though.

callamia · 08/07/2014 14:35

Tell your husband to stop being an awful Hyacinth about things.
Daniel is perfectly lovely as a name, for a child of any social class.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 08/07/2014 14:36

No! It is one of the few truly 'class-less' names about. Others being James, Matthew, Thomas etc.

It's a great name - the two Dan's I know best (the ones that spring to mind) are both Drs.

booksandchoc · 08/07/2014 14:36

DH is a Daniel, not at all chavvy. Dd is Daniella after me and DH. Going to be confusing when she's called danny like her dad is.

Choccyhobnob · 08/07/2014 14:46

No it's a definite classic Smile

Fairylea · 08/07/2014 14:51

I think it's a very classic name. Personally I'm not fond of it becoming "Danny" but I love it as Daniel or just Dan.

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 08/07/2014 14:55

Daniel is about as classless (as in "conveying nothing about social class", rather than as in "the opposite of classy") a name as you can get these days.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII · 08/07/2014 15:03

Definitely not chavvy. It's about as safe a name as you can get. It's a lovely name.

I'd love to know what your husbands name is Grin

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/07/2014 15:56

Daniel is a great name! And completely neutral / class-free (iyswim).

picnicbasketcase · 08/07/2014 15:59

Not chavvy in the slightest Shock

TempsPerdu · 08/07/2014 16:12

Not at all. I know Daniels from all walks of life, including a couple whose families would be considered very 'middle class'. It's very neutral and classless I think.

Vijac · 08/07/2014 16:14

Ph I love Danny the champion of the world, what a book!

AChildminder88 · 08/07/2014 17:07

Is he confusing that awful word for common? My OH is a dan to me, Danny to his mom, Daniel to his grandad.

I think it's a lovely name, and one of the few that crosses all walks of life!

Wishfulmakeupping · 08/07/2014 18:57

No way its a classic name not chavvy in the least how ridiculous

reup · 08/07/2014 19:00

I like it because it's class-less. You can't pigeon hole it like you could some names.

Gingerjv · 08/07/2014 20:12

It's classic and nice name! i like it and always liked and think i always will like;-)

cheminotte · 08/07/2014 20:35

Your husband is criticising your son's name. I would find that very hurtful tbh. Suggest you LTB.

Sophronia · 08/07/2014 23:52

No, it's a classic. Daniel is a lovely, handsome name.

Pico2 · 08/07/2014 23:56

I agree that Daniel is an Everyman name and doesn't reflect any class.

That's exactly what I want in a name.

TheHorseHasBolted · 10/07/2014 21:50

I know Daniels from all sorts of backgrounds. There happen to be two teenage boys called that in my area who are right little tearaways, but there are also lots of lovely ones and I don't really associate it with any one class or type. The only thing I think would be a bit off would be Danny as a full name.

runningonwillpower · 10/07/2014 21:54

There are two sorts of names.

Those that are classic but come in and out of fashion.

And those that are trendy.

Daniel is classic.

Ikeameatballs · 10/07/2014 21:54

I love it.

Very much a go anywhere and do anything name.

DaniAlvez · 10/07/2014 21:55

I never met a Daniel I didn't like. My DS is Daniel Smile

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 10/07/2014 22:01

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling.

It's a lovely, classic, classless name. Your DH is er...misguided on both counts.
