Dd2 (12 weeks) is called Emilia i.e em-ee-lee-ya. Had no problems with people's mispronunciation and have had lots of lovely comments about it. UNTIL, a mum of dd1's friend insists it's emma-lea. I've told her three flipping times and she's told me I'm wrong?!?!

She is definitely wrong. Emilia (pronounced em-ee-lee-ya) is an actual name with the correct pronunciation. I'm having similar problems with my dd's name and I feel your pain. I find it so embarrassing having to correct people, especially people I like. It's so awkward.

Alita7 · 06/07/2014 21:46

very rude!

Your pronunciation is the correct/normal pronunciation. But even if it wasn't you call people by the pronunciation they use, not by the one you think is correct.

Start pronouncing her dds name wrong, she'll get the message.

Tea1Sugar · 07/07/2014 08:13

She's Sue. Soo-y?!

Dd1 has got an Irish name and its been mispronounced for all her life. I gave up when she was about 3. Yours is not a harr name, she sees your dd all the time so it just ignorance imo

ILoveCoreyHaim · 07/07/2014 08:24

*hard

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 07/07/2014 08:28

Ilove is your daughters name Aoife? I actually watched a youtube video of how to pronounce it so I wouldn't get it wrong Blush

Tea I think you need to tell her firmly. I never understand people like this. How would you not know how to sat your own daughters name! The mind boggles!

BeanyIsPregnant · 07/07/2014 08:37

I'd always go for 'who?!' Whenever she says it! every time.. She will soon get fed up of having the same conversation!

BeckaH123 · 07/07/2014 09:58

Yep she's an idiot. Mispronounce her name and avoid her as much as poss.

ILoveCoreyHaim · 07/07/2014 10:03

Puds my dds

ILoveCoreyHaim · 07/07/2014 10:03

Oops my dds Niamh but i wa

ILoveCoreyHaim · 07/07/2014 10:06

Eee my phone keeps automatically hitting enter. My dd is Niamh but i was on the Aoife thread re problems shes had. In this case there not really any excuse and it sounds to me like the friend is just being ignorant. She not a stranger to the op

SixImpossible · 07/07/2014 10:06

Call her S'you. It's a recognised version. At least, I have known more than one Sur who pronounced her name S'you.

SixImpossible · 07/07/2014 10:07

Doh! More than one Sue.

SixImpossible · 07/07/2014 10:08

Oh, and you may want to get this thread pulled fairly soon, as you've given out a lot of personally identifying info.

alemci · 07/07/2014 10:13

silly women, like Amelia but with an E. it is nothing to do with Emma.

OwlCapone · 07/07/2014 10:15

Call her Sway.

prettyinpink90 · 07/07/2014 10:17

Very rude! We also have an Emilia (13 weeks). I'm so tired of people saying "oh i have/know an Amelia" when I tell them her name. Sometimes I correct them and tell them her nickname is Emmy, sometimes I just nod and agree.

TimeForAnotherNameChange · 07/07/2014 10:23

Call her Stu, not only is it pr wrongly, it's a male name as well - she'll be apoplectic!

HavantGuard · 07/07/2014 10:58

Thick and rude. Charming combination.

I like the idea of calling her Sway Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 07/07/2014 16:38

Call her Emma-Leah. Or maybe Bob.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 07/07/2014 18:00

Ah yes, I have to see that first time I saw niamh in writing i had no idea what i said! I did however endeavour to find out Grin

ILoveCoreyHaim · 07/07/2014 18:49

She constantly gets called

Nee yam
Ni yam
or my most hated ...
Ny amph

Most people once corrected remember but the problem is they are always meeting new people at this age through school clubs and groups. It died down then started all over again at senior school. Its quite popular now so maybe the next set of Niamh's will have it a bit easier. A girl in her year is Neve and she prefers that spelling.
