This article in today's Guardian made me instantly think of this board.

So many of us agonise choosing over a name that's too popular, or too nicknamey, or difficult to abbreviate: it has never occurred to me before that a stepfamily could end up with two children of the same name!

Me and my step sister have the same name. And are the same age Grin because our parents married years ago, i call her my sister, rather than step sister, which does confuse people.

I knew a step family with two Stephens. Both absolutely refused to be called Steve Hmm (presumably just to be awkward)

My Grandpa had 12 living siblings, two were called Reginald.

A name I would absolutely love for my own child but partners child is already called that :(
Another name I love is taken by his ex wife ,mother to his children ,and even though it's not his child it's still family so thought it's be weird.

My OH and his step brother have the same name, and his other step brother has the same name as his dad!

My weird dad kept suggesting my DSS's name for DS Confused which seemed massively insensitive to my family set-up at the time!

BILs DP has a dd called Anna , MILs dp has a gd called Anna , so MIL has two step GDs called Anna .

Also the first Anna was already in the family when the second one was born and they called her it anyway.

(Name changed so not to out me it's a very very unusual name)
