Eden or Lara would be my picks

scottishmummy · 21/06/2014 19:06

Lara - ok
Iona - like it
Rhona old and mumsy
Jenna I like it
Eden I like it,but does have the trying to be cool thing

AuntieStella · 21/06/2014 19:08

Eden was only ever a boys name until that US soap opera in th 1980s. I'm not wild about unisex/ambiguous names, btu perhaps that doesn't bother you.

Of your others, I think Lara is lovely.

TulipOHare · 21/06/2014 19:13

It is my DD's name, so I love it.

From your list I also like Lara and Iona.

kim222 · 21/06/2014 19:13

I love Eden, I know of two girl Edens and they both really suit it, very pretty name

mathanxiety · 21/06/2014 19:20

Lara -- gorgeous. Reminds me of a beautiful spot in the Wicklow mountains called Laragh.
Iona -- I had a very elderly second cousin named Iona and always thought it was a lovely name - she was a sweetie.
Rhona -- dated - I knew some Rhonas growing up in Ireland in the 70s. A little frumpy.
Jenna One of George Dubya's daughters is Jenna and to me it is a Texas name (with connotations of country music, big hair, perfume that smells of bubble gum trashy--)
Eden -- the name of a DD of a cousin of mine - I think it's a beautiful name for a girl. I hadn't heard it before I learned what my cousin and his wife had called her. I think it's a very serene-sounding name.

My picks would be Lara, Eden and Iona.

I'd say be bold and go for Rhona. A wonderful, beautiful island www.isleofrona.com/index.html

Lara is a short form of Larissa/Larisa. It makes me think of Dr Zhivago. A splendid, moving, film, and Julie Christie very lovely, but ... I prefer the long form of the name. If you like that, and choose 'Lara' as a nickname, then why not? To sort of contradict myself, personally speaking, the only Lara I've ever met was really, really nice.

Iona is nice but I don't like it. I just think 'lots of tourists' - the island is not that far from where I live.

Jenna - I can't get beyond Jenna Bush. Not her fault, but her father did some pretty dreadful things.

Eden - Eden project, new age... All really, truly laudable, but ironically rather predictable.

Gosh, that all sound so negative. I don't mean to be. Many congratulations on your pregnancy!

MrsBungle · 21/06/2014 19:34

I think Eden and Lara are gorgeous

McBear · 21/06/2014 19:36

I love Eden. Rhona Mitra was in a film and her character was Eden. Loved it since I saw that

Nereida · 21/06/2014 19:40

I like Lara and Jenna. Iona always sounds like 'I own a', Rhona is ok but a bit dated. Eden is too 'Garden of Eden' for me (I'm personally not religious).

Heels99 · 21/06/2014 19:41

Vote for Lara here. Lovely name. Eden is rather pretentious. Rhonda is old lady and not in a chic way. Jenna is prettybut very American , Jenna bush immediately springs to mind.

maggiethemagpie · 21/06/2014 19:57

Hmmm. Wasn't so sure about Eden when I first read the thread but it's growing on me.

RainbowsStars · 21/06/2014 20:06

My next door neighbour has a daughter called Eden, it really, really suits her. I wouldn't have thought I'd like it but I do. Go for it.

Guin1 · 22/06/2014 02:51

My favourite is Lara, although as pp mentioned, I think it's even better as a nn for Larissa. Also like pp, Iona makes me think "I own a ..."

manicinsomniac · 22/06/2014 10:36

I love Eden, especially for a girl.

I also love Lara. Would definitely choose one of those.

Iona is pretty. Rhona and Jenna I'm not keen on - a bit dated perhaps?

BumpNGrind · 22/06/2014 11:14

Eden is our top girls name but we're having a little boy and are finding boys names far harder. I was surprised to find that my usually vocal dm and dpil both like the name, that's not true of our boys names.

longestlurkerever · 22/06/2014 11:24

I like Jenna. Much classier than Jemma and more grown up than Jenny. I have a friend called it so can't use it but have considered it for a middle name. I like Lara and Iona too and have also considered them. I like Isla more actually but it doesn't go with our surname.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 22/06/2014 17:26

All ok apart from Jenna - Bush daughter, famous porn star apparently! - and just a grim name all round.

TheFace · 23/06/2014 15:21

I think Eden is a gorgeous name for a girl.

Umbrellasandladders · 24/06/2014 07:23

Is Eden getting popular now?

Tealady1983 · 24/06/2014 07:25

I love Eden my hubby didn't Hmm
We now got Ava Grin

deadwitchproject · 24/06/2014 08:14

I like Jenna (paradise/heaven) and Eden (it always reminds me of the Norse story Idun/Idunn and the apples).

Alisvolatpropiis · 24/06/2014 09:19

Lara.

Not keen on the others.

Iswallowedawatermelon · 24/06/2014 09:23

I like Lara and Jenna.

Eden is a boys name imo.

burgatroyd · 24/06/2014 09:48

Eden is lovely but a name of the moment. It also has religious connotations and makes me think Pleasure Garden.

Rhona is fab!!!!!
