Girls names to go with Alexander...

Having a few problems choosing a girls name for our daughter to be and hoping some of you can help.

We have a little boy called Alexander but always call him Alex.

Our favourite girls name is Alice. I think I already know the answer but is alex and Alice just too similar? Just need some second opinions before we completely rule it out...

There are a few others I like but mostly friends have used them.

And Scarlett came up recently. We are quite traditional (boring I guess!) so does that sound a bit adventurous???

Thanks :-)

I have an Alexander who we always call Alex. His sister is Emma but we also liked Julia and Heather. Love Scarlett - you could shorten it to Lettie or Lottie if you wanted. Alice is definitely too similar.

Josephine?

Alex and Josie have the same kind of feel to them -familiar, laid back, cheerful names - and like Alexander, Josephine is a classic.

Alexander is the kind of name that goes with pretty much anything. Apart from Alice.

I have an Alexander (known as Lex) and my daughters are Sarah and Mary, and I'm expecting a Harriet. (Well at least she's a Harriet at the moment).

I like Alexander and Catherine, shortened to Alex ad Katie.

I know two Alex and Lucy sibling sets, one Alex and Connie (shortened from Alexander and Constance) and one Alexander and Florence.

I have an Alexander known as Alex and a Kennedy, which I know isn't to everyone's taste but I love it

Thanks everyone, some great ideas. You have put me off scarlett now!

Current favourites are Lucy and Amelia but really like a few others you have suggested (Harriet is very pretty) as well. It would be Charlotte, Isobel and Sophie too but I have close friends who's little girls have those names...

And like Alice as a middle name so maybe that could work.

Thanks!

The name doesn't have to "go with" Alexander, whatever that means. You just need something that won't cause confusion.

What is it that you like about Alice? If it's the end sound, there are lots of names that end in -ice, -is or -ys.

What about Alison? Might be just different enough to avoid confusion, and it's a nice medieval name that isn't used much right now.

I know an Alex and Eloise as siblings.
