Ive had many suggestions thrown at me. I like a few, and love none.

Im of the opinion that when I hear THE name, I will know.

Am I doing it wrong? Do I just need to learn to love a name I currently just like?

I feel like ive seen and heard all the names that ever exist.

I didn't love any names. We went with a name we liked and we felt he could live with. So we considered adulthood as well as cute toddler stage and how a name would work down the pub with his mates iyswim.

I am more than happy with my son's names. Never once regretted either of their names. On the other hand we went for a name we loved for DD and I wish we had taken the same approach to her name.

I think choosing a name is a very personal process - everyone has their own way of doing it. I don't think there is a 'right' way. We took a month after his birth to name our DS. Obviously it was important to have a name that we both liked, but we felt it was equally important to think about how DS would 'live with it', e.g. did it work for child and man? did it have an easy nn? was it easy to pronounce and spell? was there any obvious potential for teasing? was it unusual enough that he would probably be the only one with that name in his class? We are both really happy with the name we chose, and can't imagine him being called anything else, although it's too early to know if he likes it or not!

For a mn, we went with a family name - that was the 'special name' for me, although I would never have used it as a first name.

For both my children, I knew when I found the one. Never regretted either of them. (the names, that is - not the kids!)

The name you seek is Bruno.

You're welcome.

Alita7 · 13/06/2014 21:06

I think part of it is finding one that feels special to you both, not necessarily one you automatically love.

Our girl choice (Liliana) is one that I now love but initially it was a like that we both knew was the one straight away.

Like you with boys names I can't find one I love that dp likes, but we have a couple we both like and 1 we both like the most (max/ maximus) so I think we'll go with that one :)

But we will see, if baby plays ball we'll find out next Thursday :D

spleenyone · 13/06/2014 21:10

Totally agree with Maggie, neither of my two could possibly be called anything else. Love their names.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 13/06/2014 21:17

Haha sorry not a fan of Bruno!

Op, I'm so with you. I'm waiting to find a name that gives me that special feeling of just feeling 'right'.

I'm pretty sure I've read every boys' name out there, so I guess something has to give for me to look at that name differently. This is what happened with dd2's name - it was a name I had previously discounted for being too popular, but when I reconsidered, I realised it wasn't as popular as initially thought, and then I knew it was "The One".

I really don't want to settle for a name I just like, however, I do think it might be a bit of a slow-burner and I need to 'try on' a few names I might not have short listed as yet, for whatever reason.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 13/06/2014 22:20

DH found his "The One" name tonught which would be marvellous, if it wasnt Tucker.

Hmm

OP, I feel rejected Grin

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 13/06/2014 22:45

TUCKER?!

Is your surname Jenkins?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 13/06/2014 22:54

Sorry Brunes Sad
Hahah no.

I found "the one" with DS1

DS2 was wellard. We ended up calling him a name that we hadn't considered and I love it now.

HaroldLloyd · 13/06/2014 22:56

Tucker? Shit. That's bonkers.

squoosh · 13/06/2014 22:57

He likes Tucker.

You don't like Bruno.

There is no hope.

HaroldLloyd · 13/06/2014 22:58

Brucker?

3boys3dogshelp · 13/06/2014 23:01

When my oh suggested Frank I laughed and then saw his hurt face. At that point I realised he has no taste and decided to choose a name that I love and he likes, works for us Grin.
In all seriousness I think as boy's names are much less pretty and cutesy than girl's I found it much harder to find an instant love. Two of my three were slow burners but now that name 'is' my son I love it and he couldn't be anything else iyswim.

I think Frank has a certain rakish charm.

EyelinerQueen · 13/06/2014 23:05

Oi! There is absolutely nothing wrong with Frank.

3boys3dogshelp · 13/06/2014 23:06

Oops sorry!

squoosh · 13/06/2014 23:07

I bet he's smoking a fag and thinking up some smooth lines for the ladies in there EyelinerQueen.

EyelinerQueen · 13/06/2014 23:09

Too right squoosh. Like a mini Tom Hardy in Kray mode Grin .

It was my granda's name which is the main reason for us choosing it but it's also retro, unpretentious, a proper name and different without being yooneek which is pretty much perfect for me Smile .

It's all subjective though innit.

I approached finding DS4's name by looking at its meaning first. It now suits him and the story behind it is so beautiful and poignant it brings a tear to my eye!

Nothing wrong with Frank but if you both don't want it...
