Like Eleanor? (equal stress on all three syllables)

Or el-EN-a

Or el-AY-na

TIA

I don't know if it has an accent on the middle E. Anyone?

The Spanish Elena I know is el-AY-na.

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 11/06/2014 17:34

The second AFAIK. But I think there is another language with the same spelling and El-en-a pronounciation.

ChippyMinton · 11/06/2014 17:35

el-AY-na

TightyMcTight · 11/06/2014 17:38

The Elena I know is El Ay Na

Teapot13 · 11/06/2014 17:48

The Spanish say e LAY na; the Greeks say EL e na.

nasara · 11/06/2014 17:53

In Spanish, Elena is pronounced with a short e sound, so E-leh-na. And the stress is on the penultimate syllable unless otherwise indicated by an accent.

Well Elena Baltacha pronounced it e-lay-na so that's how I would naturally say it.

Likeaninjanow · 11/06/2014 18:09

My spanish friend pronounces her name El-eh-na.

burgatroyd · 11/06/2014 18:22

Which prn do you want, op?

EasyWhiteChocolate · 11/06/2014 18:24

The ones I know:
Spanish: El-AY-ah
Greek: El-ENN-ah
English: El-UN-ah

RAFWife12 · 11/06/2014 18:30

The only person I've known with this name pronounced it e-LAY-na, so that's how I would automatically pronounce it now.

DinoSnores · 11/06/2014 20:57

Elle-AY-na for the one Elena that I know.

OK, sounds like it should be El-AY-na. It's not about what I want, burga, it's that I used to know someone who spells her name like that, am likely to be meeting up with her again soon, and can't remember how she pronounces it. Blush getting old

Thanks very much to you all.
