Old fashioned boys names not in top 100

I really love old fashioned names such as

Arthur
Alfred
Albert
Henry
Edward

But want something not overly popular it has to be a name that you could have used 100 years ago but these names seem to be popular at the moment. Any ideas?

Psst - this thread is a little old. If you’re looking for old-fashioned baby names, these ones are due a comeback. MNHQ

Nothing wrong with being "too Rupert bear" Grin. I love Rupert (the bear and the name).

Some of these might be just inside the top 100 but you won't find too many children called these names, although someone is bound to come along and disagree.

Andrew
Robert
Christopher
Richard
Peter
Lance
Gilbert
Edwin
Edmund
Benedict

I have similar taste to you!

We went with Stanley in the end but on my list were:

Arthur
Albert (nn Albie)
Eugene (DH would never allow it!)
Franklin
Sidney
Ralph
Ray

I know a Percy, a Wilf, a Frederick, a Herbert, a Hector... The list goes on. These names are so popular at the moment you will be hard pushed to find one not in the top 100 and even if you don't as long as it's not in the top 50 you shouldn't come across too many others.

Anything from Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends seems to fit. Stanley, Sidney, Percy, Harold, Douglas, Donald, Gordon, Henry, Edward, Toby... There are some great names, I scoured the back of DDs books looking for names as there are so many engines. A lot of them can be shortened to "cute" nns as well for when they are babies.

My favourite is Percy and I also love Quentin from the lists above but my DH (a Robin himself so quite a cool, not hugely popular name) just makes this face Hmm when I suggest them.

Missteacake · 10/06/2014 10:17

Ha ha ha Thomas the tank engine names are the best! My favourites so far off these lists are

Percy
Harold
Wilfred

Will def run these by DH Smile

OP Harold would probably end up as Harry, so would have quite a popular name

Winston
Oswald
Rufus
Trevor
Ronald
Antony
