Has anyone got a baby name book containing the name Oz ? If so, can you tell me what it says?

Also... Anyone recommend any good books with a variety of names in?

Thank you

I wouldn't bother with the books - just look online! Google baby names and lots of sites will turn up. Much easier (and free!)

Some websites are good but some are misleading!

There is a reliable reference book from Oxford University Press. Amazon link here, but available from other bookshops: www.amazon.co.uk/Dictionary-First-Oxford-Paperback-Reference/dp/0198610602

I know loads of Ozs. I think they are Austins and Oscars but so sometimes you just don't find out as they are just called Oz.

I just wanted some printed proof it is a name on its own?!

It's a short form of names such as Oswald.

Here are pages from reliable babyname site:
www.behindthename.com/name/oz-1

www.behindthename.com/name/oz-1/tree

also, as earlier poster said, used as a nn for several other names.

I don't think it is a name on its own. Of course there's Oz out of Auf Wiedersehen Pet. His surname was Osbourne.

It's on lots of sites as a Hebrew name on its own but wanted some proof from a book as never heard of it before.

This is an old thread, but just wanted to say, my son is called Oz. Not short for anything. Oz :-)
