DC is due next month (June 2045) and we are looking for nice vintage type name suggestions.

I love love love Brenda for a girl, but it seems to be very popular at the moment. Other names on our shortlist are Denise and Beverly (nn Bev).

For boys we're tossing up between Trevor (nn Trev) and Nigel (after DH's Grandad).

Any other suggestion? My DS has a Leslie and a Gail, so those names are out, unfortunately.

What about Susan? Sue is a great nn for a baby too.

And Keith!

Can I suggest Malcolm or Terrence for a boy? I liked Bradley (nn Brad) too, but DH vetoed it as being too posh (same for Darren nn Daz). I suggested Sindy for a girl - but MIL insists that this is a doll's name

Op I have to say Nigel is always gonna be a marmite name after Farage. Would be like having a Margaret 30 years ago. Depends if that bothers you?

Cindy is gorgeous but I prefer it spelt with a C- seems more classic.

If Darren is too posh what about Darryl? Could till use nn Daz

Marlene and Vernon, or are they a bit on the 'try hard' side?

I was thinking of Kenneth, I like the nn Ken but not too keen on Kenny, what do you think?

Oubliettee agree with your DH about Sindy, but if you like the name you could go for the more classy spelling of Cindy with a C.

Patricia (Pat, Trish) for short. Or have you thought about Janet, Janice, Joan or Leslie? For a boy you can't go wrong with Trevor, but I also like Bernard, Lionel and Cliff.

Have you considered Tina? Phyllis is also lovely, but quite popular at the moment.

Basil or Bertram for a boy?

And Fanny is lovely, although DH thinks it's a bit too cutesy.

Has anyone suggested Geraldine, Glynis, Edna or Glenda?

Or if you have a DS - Maurice, Arnold, Gordon or Brian?

Don't forget Julie - also Belinda, Bridget, Suzanne, Marilyn, Diane ...

I heard of a Michelle the other day - thats' novel. Wonder if it will catch on?
And Becky - really daring.

Can't go wrong with a Gary or Geoff for a boy. Though Nigel and Carl/ Karl are popular around here.

I love Cindy and Trisha for girls, but Janette or Janice have been firm family favourites since the last century.

You could spell Louise, L'Wheeze if you wanted to be a bit clever, no one will think of that and it adds a certain 'exotique' quality, don't you think?

I'm a fan of Debbie, it's my grandmother's name. Love Karen and Cheryl too but DP is not keen. He wants Olivia - eugh, how 2014!

Boy - It has to be Steve or Glen

Alison might be making a come back and Claire. I think for boys I like Richard and Roy.

I was born in 1944 and they were all in my year along with a few Ann[e]s and Jeans. We also had a Ruby, a Pearl, a Beryl and an Emerald so we were a very 'precious' lot.

Have you considered Donna or Janice - both have a lovely classic ring to them.

For a boy, I'm torn between Barry or Geoff. Perhaps leaning more towards Barry - it just says 'I wear stonewashed jeans and eat a saveloy for tea.' Manly.

Craig and Claire are fabulous, perfect for twins!

What about giving Leslie a twist by making it Leslie-Jayne. The Y in Jayne would make it a bit quirky.
