I really like this name but there are a couple of things making me doubt it.

Oh, and I should add it would be "just" Kate. DD has a name which is a shorter version of a longer name but works in its own right.

  1. Our surname starts with a C. Very similar to Cavendish
  2. Baby will have an aunt whose name is Katie. Said Aunt lives abroad but is as involved as possible being so far away
  3. It almost doesnt seem to suit a small baby, even though Im naming a future adult Grin if that makes sense.

Any thoughts?

Im not keen on any of the longer forms. Like it as a stand alone name.

I have a full name with no possible real shortenings and I dont feel like I need more options (think similar to Sarah or Claire, both "full names" with no alternatoves).

It's beautiful, wise and classic. Doesn't matter about your sis, I'm sure she'd be flattered anyway! I have a dd with a name beginning with a hard C so probably won't pick Kate for dc2 if it's a girl, but will use for a middle name. Kate Cavendish on the other hand is a great name. Go for it :)

My sis is very unlikely

FIL is Bob, so we considered Kate after him RiverTam! We used whether people got that as a measure of them!

Ps - love Kate, not so keen on Katie, but consider them different names.

love love love Kate, it's on my shortlist too. It's actually my middle name. My parents had settled on it as my first name until a week before I was born when my mum was reading the newspaper and saw a journalist with my name and fell in love with it...dammit!! I always wished I was a Kate when I was little.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 27/05/2014 13:31

Err....when did you marry my husband Mrs?????

It's quite a 'sharp' sounding name. I don't think anybody will think of Kate Middleton. That'd be like all Anne's reminding you of Princess Anne. It's just too common to remind you of one person. Diana now, that would put me in mind of THE Diana.

Kitty is dreadfully silly. Kate is a better name, although not very attractive with a sur name that starts with a Kuh sound. Lots of names are too soft / weak imo though, so I'm aware I have a high bar with names.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 27/05/2014 13:45

Surname is Kah sound not Kuh but yes I agree its quite a sharp sounding name
