How would you pronounce Pearl?

I like the name Pearl but I'm worried how people would pronounce it in different accents? I would say it 'Purl' but I think my DH's side of the family would say it 'Peh-ril'. How would you say it?

Tanya is another one that I find interesting. As a Scot I would pronounce it Tan ya, just the way it looks, but I have commonly heard either Tarrrn ya, or Tan yerr.

Going way back on the thread - Marsali =Gaelic for Marjorie = a version of Margaret = derived from a Greek word meaning Pearl.

Agree with Squoosh that it can sound very pretty - especially in a Scottish/Irish accent Grin

Another Scot here who pronounces it Pehr-il.
At least I can say it - I can't manage "Karl" at all!

I love the way Pearl sounds with a Scottish accent! It's not mispronunciation, just a different accent.
