Dougie, Gus or Ted?!

Hello. My husband and I can't reach a decision on a name for our son-to-be! The contenders are:

Gus (Angus full name)
Ted (Theodore or Edmund full name)
Dougie (pronounced 'Duggie - full name Douglas).

I like all these shortened versions, and we're both agreed that we don't want the shortened version on the baby's birth certificate. His middle name will be John, if that's any help. Opinions please!
Thank you Smile

Douglas and Angus vote here! Love love these names had them on my list but DH wasn't so keen.

DS was nearly Fergus so I'd give that a thumbs up too.

Ooh so excited you might choose Douglas Grin

Haha redpickle!! My DH just had a good laugh at that!

I have a Douglas John ! He's 4 now, and it really suits him. I love the name Douglas (obviously)

I haven't heard Douglas for a turd, but have heard it for a 3rd class degree (Douglas Herd/3rd. Along with Desmond Tutu/2.2) Grin

Definitely Douglas / Dougie! second choice would be Angus / Gus and, third would be Theodore / Ted and fourth would be Edmund / Ted.

I like Douglas and Gus the most out of all the names, short and long.

But I'm put off Dougie as 'ie' names are so very now

And versions of Ted are becoming popular.

Although i have to say if i was introduced to a child called any of the names - i'd think nice name.

Theonlyoneiknow · 21/05/2014 13:26

Not keen on Gus as a nn, or Angus (but really like Fergus).

The popularity of Ted depends on where you are in the country. I don't know of any in my area with that name. It wouldn't say it was popular in Scotland.

I really like Douglas but not too keen on nn Dougie or Doug!

So, my favourite would be Ted, then Douglas

SummerScoop · 21/05/2014 19:01

Douglas, love Dougie as a nickname

cloggal · 21/05/2014 21:08

Love both full names, but prefer Gus to Dougie.

singersgirl · 21/05/2014 21:12

Dougie is the least common - I don't know any Douglases or Dougs or Dougies in my large acquaintance of boys aged 16 and under in South West London.

My Ted is nearly 16 and has always been the only one with his name in his year group at school, though we do know of a couple of younger Teds now,so it might be becoming more popular (trailblazing here...)

We know a smattering of Guses of various ages short for various things.

baskingseals · 21/05/2014 21:36

You have both my sons' names Grin
So I say yes to all three, my favourite probably Theodore.

Guin1 · 22/05/2014 15:59

My DS (22 months) is a Teddy (Edward) although he may become a Ted, Ned or Ed if he wants to when he is older. Or even end up being a Bear (as in Grylls - real name Edward also!). Interesting to hear that Ted is becoming popular in UK - we live in Australia and I know no other children called Ted here. Mind you, I don't know any Angus or Douglas kids either.

Pebbles0934 · 23/05/2014 19:02

Angus nn Gus definitely best of the bunch!!
