Hi everyone,
We are expecting a baby later this year. Boys name all picked out but really struggling for girls. Our DD's name is Sophia so want something that'll go nicely but not matchy iykwim. Our surname is extremely common, 1 syllable.

So far we have:
Edith (Edie)
Elsa
Elsie
Poppy
Nylah

What do you think of these? Is there any names we may like if we like these names?

Many thanks Smile

From your list I like
Edith
Elsa
Nylah

Poppy is so over used - Elsie a grey haired old lady but if you chose elsa you could always use Elsie as a nn. Not that I liek the choosing nn for them in advance! a over controlling middle class MN thing.

Choccyhobnob · 20/05/2014 10:15

I'm not sure Edith 'goes' with Sophia even though I agree on not having 'matchy' sibling names. I think the same goes for Nylah but on the other end of the scale, like Sophia is somewhere between Edith and Nylah on the old-modern scale (not saying this is true at all, just in my head!)

Poppy is nice and does go with Sophia but I also think is quite overused so that leaves Elsa and Elsie! I love both, would prob go for Elsa rather than the diminutive (Elsa is on my list although I worry it will also have a huge surge n popularity due to Frozen!)

Actually reading it again, I do like Edie, just not Edith!

PunkAssMoFo · 20/05/2014 10:27

Apart from poppy, they're all poles apart from sophia.
Elsa is the least old fashioned if you want something to go with dd's name.

Eliza
Nancy
Iris
Mabel
Frances
Helena (nn Nell)

How about Elise instead of Elsie?

alita7 · 20/05/2014 11:06

I like elsa and Elsie.

Mynewone · 20/05/2014 11:09

I like Edith best but think Poppy works better with Sophia

EnglishRose1320 · 20/05/2014 11:25

Poppy works really well but as other people have mentioned it is quite common atm, although not sure that would bother me.

I would probably pick Elsie or Elsa

Not keen on Nylah tbh and although I like Edith I don't think it goes with your Dd's name

squoosh · 20/05/2014 12:40

Elsa is gorgeous.

Not crazy about any of the others.

zebarella · 20/05/2014 14:15

Poppy is a beautiful name.

DramaAlpaca · 20/05/2014 15:11

Elsa is the only one I like at all, and I think it goes better than the others with Sophia, which is classic & beautiful.

Rhubarbgarden · 20/05/2014 16:09

I love Edith. Not keen on the others.

twinjocks · 20/05/2014 16:26

I love Edie, the others are nice apart from Nylah - yuk.

NationMcKinley · 20/05/2014 16:26

I love Elsa but bear in mind it may get massively popular very soon.

How about:

Jemima
Laura
Caroline
Marnie
Miranda

Congratulations! Flowers

Nayla/Naila has a lovely meaning but people may struggle to pronounce it: (Na-ee-lah) It comes from Arabic.

Elsa nd Elsie both short for Elizabeth. I like it (and them) a lot.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/05/2014 20:42

Love Edie.

BlueStarsAtNight · 22/05/2014 01:50

I like all of them except Nylah. Poppy goes the best with Sophia, but I like Elsa the best.
