Marcus, it's less common/popular than Dylan.

CPtart · 20/05/2014 16:25

Marcus by a mile.
Dylan has certain connotations round here by a mile too.

Knackeredmum13 · 20/05/2014 16:44

Dylan !

Benchmark · 20/05/2014 18:38

Dylan definitely! Really dislike Marcus.

EyelinerQueen · 20/05/2014 18:39

Dylan. 100%.

Marcus is insipid and posh.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/05/2014 18:43

Dylan.

I just like it more.

twinjocks · 20/05/2014 19:32

Marcus by far.

florascotia · 20/05/2014 19:52

If you are Welsh or have Welsh connections, then why not Dylan (pronouced, I think, Dull-an)?

Otherwise, people will ask: DylanThomas? Magic Roundabout? Bob Dylan? So you'll need an answer (not impossible). Or else they might make unflattering assumptions. I'm not saying that this is a good thing, but, as above, it happens....

Marcus is not my favourite, but I did once work with a very nice chap with that name.

dustarr73 · 21/05/2014 21:41

I have a Dylan and hes only been asked about Dylan Thomas.Saying that hes 19 and when i had him there seemed to be an influx of his name.Which is a pity as i really loved teh name.[sill do]

Squirm · 22/05/2014 08:41

Dylan

Nocturne123 · 22/05/2014 09:34

Dylan definitely ! Marcus has been ruined by association for me

Lighthousekeeping · 22/05/2014 09:43

Marcus is a dentists name. It is posh to me. Dylan is a lovely name but it is very popular and has been for afew years. It's one of those names like a Jake or Joe. There's always quite afew around. I think I'd go for Marcus if push came to shove.

Bue · 22/05/2014 10:51

I adore Marcus. Much less common than Dylan, and has a lot of style IMO.

ExcuseTypos · 22/05/2014 10:58

Dylan is much nicer than Marcus.

But I always think of Bob rather than Magic roundabout.

BrianTheMole · 22/05/2014 11:00

Marcus.

forago · 22/05/2014 11:19

Me too with Bob, or Dylan Thomas even.

But I can reassure you that I am yet to meet a primary school child who has ever heard of The Magic Roundabout, my ds is the only one who has ever heard of Bob Dylan (because I told him he is named after him) and they have only vaguely heard of Dylan Thomas "that poem bloke".

I think many names have connotations, but often very generation-specific. I wouldn't worry about it too much (unless you were thinking of Adolf ...) and just use what you like.
