The name Lyra? As in the character of the same name of the Philip Pullman 'Dark Materials' trilogy (for those who have read it)? I'm looking for a girls name which is feminine without being 'cutesy', and not overly common without being bizarre?

Good point well made Whenwill3, I think it was a gut reaction, which when it comes to names can useful to consider, but probably influenced a lot by living just outside Hattersley, and chances are that wouldn't apply to the OP

Fair enough Etihad different importance if hindley was near you and the collective history of the community.

Graciejoylove8 · 04/05/2014 00:04

Love Lyra. I know one (born in the 70's) and it's gorgeous on her. Has a sister Giselle, which is lovely too.

Busymumto3dc · 04/05/2014 07:34

I live near hattersley

I don't associate Lyra with Myra hindley

That is just silly

I love it. It is on my shortlist for DC2, and I think it might be one of the few girl's names on my list that I will be able to convince DH of.

maggiethemagpie · 04/05/2014 21:47

love it!

AMI88 · 04/05/2014 21:53

I know a girl called Lyra and she is the most striking little girl ever, blonde hair and almost grey blue eyes.
In short, I love it! Haha

HolidayCriminal · 04/05/2014 22:06

meh, you could do worse.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/05/2014 22:07

Yes

evamummy · 06/05/2014 14:46

Is it pronounced Lie-ra or Lee-ra? In any case it reminds me of Lycra, sorry.

skinmysunshine · 06/05/2014 14:50

I love it too.

squoosh · 06/05/2014 14:58

It's inoffensive but I don't love it and do hear 'lycra'.

MavisDee · 06/05/2014 15:03

I love it

soundsystem · 08/05/2014 13:11
