Alex with another name that ends in x? And musings about Ted and Kit.

We have an Alexander, who is Alex most of the time. We don't know what we are having, but am finding myself drawn to other names ending in x for a boy - Felix, Max, Rex - can I do this, or does it sound daft? They will be next to each other on Christmas cards as they are/will be dc3 and dc4! Dh thinks we can't do it, but he won't come up with another suggestion other than Ted, but he doesn't like Theodore and we can't have Edward as it is the middle name of one of our dc. He thinks we can just have Ted, I don't, I think we can just have Kit, he doesn't (it's funny how they spin things to suit them, isn't it......?).

it's a bit hard to say out loud imo, but not dreadful. I wouldn't have a theo or a ted with an Edward already in the family no. think your h is right there.

Dh wants Ted - he doesn't like Theodore. Edward is just a middle name.

I think Alex and Rex sound good together. Felix and Alex doesn't work though as the syllables sound a bit matchy.

I think Max and Alex sound good. But I would use Maximilian or Maxwell on the BC Smile

Could you use Edmund, Edwin, Edison or Edgar with Ted for short?

Or how about
Deveraux (silent x)
Knox
Jackson
Xavier (but doesn't have the X sound..)

If his full name is Alexander then it's not a problem.

If Edward's only the middle name of one of your children, you could use it as a first name for your new son - someone in my family did this when they realised that the only name they could agree on for their second daughter was their older daughter's middle name! The girls are grown up now and don't care at all. After all, what's a middle name for and how often will your older son use it except on forms etc? Ted is one of my two favourite boys' names!

I know siblings Alex and Max and never tought it odd. I agree with your dh that Ted can be used as a name in its own right, but I know many will disagree.

Edmund with Ted as nn is nice.

I don't think Alex works with max, Rex, Felix etc.

And personally I love Kit, but wouldn't use just Kit as given name.

I'd use Ted or Kit as a name in their own right, but then I'm very against calling a child one name and using another - I hated it so much that I changed my first name by deed poll as an adult.

I don't see a problem with the X endings either.

Phoenix?

Ted is a name on it's own. I love it. Every American show I enjoy seems to have a gorgeous bloke called Ted in it plus, I'm a fan of Ted Danson. It's a great name and not that popular over here.

Love kit and Rex
