Hello, I read lots of threads on this forum for ideas so thought I would put some of my ideas out there and see if you can help.

I'm having a little girl and have just about shortened it down to three names:

Editha Rose
Eliza Grace
Esther Elizabeth

What do you think? Editha is obviously Edith with an A on the end pronounced E dee tha. I think it's really pretty and also like Edie for nn?

I like them all!
But I like Edie best for a nn, not sure I like the whole Editha, although definitely prettier than just Edith.

FriedSprout · 14/04/2014 08:24

Love your second names, but can I throw Eileen into the mix?

Eileen Grace

Spottybra · 14/04/2014 08:31

Evelyn, nn Evie, Erin, Eleanor, Etain, Emma, Emmeline, Emily, nn Millie or even Lily, Erianne,

I liked E names too. The only one I liked that didn't start with a soft sound was Tess.

Or similar:
Alana, Arianna

I really like Esther, but DH vetoed as apparently it reminds him of Esther Rantzen Hmm so that would be my favourite from the ones you've mentioned. I also like Erin and Emmy for E names. I'm due a DD in May and we have chosen Alice Smile

JuniorMint · 14/04/2014 08:36

Oh and PS - although I really like Eliza, and also Eleanor etc, I'm not keen on nn Ellie so that would put me off those.

NicolaOT · 14/04/2014 08:37

Eileen I'm not sure about.... although it could grow on me.

I also got the esther rantzen comment but chose to ignore it. I love Alice.

Evelyn is lovely.... this is great! Keep them coming :-)

Have you thought about Elise? It was high on our list for DD.

I really like Edith actually, think I prefer it without the a.

Has anyone suggest Ellen yet? Simple and classic.

Or Eloise if you want something a bit more French...

Not an e name but Celeste is nice too.

florascotia · 14/04/2014 08:44

Pretty choices; I also like Hester, which is an alternative version of Esther.

Just in case it matters, in some European countries, and elsewhere, Editha is pronounced Ay-dee-tah or Edd-ee-tah. A popular short form there is Ditte or Dita.

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 14/04/2014 08:44

Esther is my favourite, but I also like your other two.

What about?
Ebony
Elena
Eden
Eva

NicolaOT · 14/04/2014 08:49

I didn't know that. Editha has come up with some criticism from several people I just think it's a prettier, softer version of Edith but having to correct people on pronunciation her whole life may get frustrating!!

Ellen and Elena are very pretty.... Is Elena Spanish? I'll have a look :-)

Elena is a popular Greek, Slavic, Spanish, Romanian and Italian version of the ancient Greek name Helen/Helene. Elena variation of Helen dates back to the 12th century.

There you go! I quite like that one thank you...will add to my list :-)

I love the name elena. If we had been having a girl she would have been elena, we had an Elijah instead. I like E names!

NicolaOT · 14/04/2014 09:00

There must be lots of them! Good middle name for Elena? I seem to love grace and rose and struggle with anything else!

OP posts:
AngryBeaver · 14/04/2014 09:12

Elsie? Elsa?

Patilla · 14/04/2014 09:15

I know someone with an Elena and as much as she likes it, she does get mistaken for having an H on the front of it a lot.

Not a deal breaker if it's "the" name for you, but worth considering.

ThefutureMrsTatum · 14/04/2014 09:16

Both of those are nice with Elena. What about Beatrice? Also Esme another nice first name

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/04/2014 09:20

I would have said Edd-itha for Editha I'm afraid.

I like Esther best from your list. Agree that Elena is likely to be mis-spelled, but it is nice.

florascotia · 14/04/2014 09:22

With Elena, which has a lovely flow, you could perhaps have a longer middle name, if you liked, so long as it did not begin with an 'a' sound. For example, Elena Penelope, Elena Margaret, Elena Frances, Elena Catherine, Elena Meredith, Elena Mary. Actually, Elena Nicola, to go with your OP name (!), would sound rather good ...

Confitdecanard · 14/04/2014 09:25

Emmeline
Elodie
Elsa
Estelle
Elaine

wigglesrock · 14/04/2014 10:24

Dd3 was going to be Elena, until I realised I didn't like some of the pronunciations. I liked Eh lay na, but most people I know said Eh len a and then there was the whole Eleanor pronunciations debacle Smile

Emer
Enid
Elisbeth

BryKP · 14/04/2014 14:42

I love Edie as a nn, very sweet. Other suggestions: Eloise, Elsa, Elini (think its Greek for Ellen..not 100% sure though! Said like el-ee-nee), Elise, Ianthe (not E obviously but along the same line!) Elvara/Elvera, Elspeth, Elena, Etta, Enid, Edina.
