Hi,

After many disagreements DH and I have finally come up with a short list of names for our DD2 who's due in 8 weeks. I would love opinions on which name is your favourite and why. The names are:

Inara May
Alyssa May
Ailsa May
Persephone May

Thank you for all comments!

I like ailsa. Very pretty and under used. (Also like elsa but with Frozen being quite popular there might be more of them around in the next few years. ) Alyssa is a bit fussy and I couldn't imagine hanging a name like persephone on a child... penelope maybe as that shortens to penny which is quite nice. I've never heard of inara but it's nice.

Theonlyoneiknow · 13/04/2014 13:41

For me, the best is Ailsa, by a long shot. Not keen on the others sorry OP

SavoyCabbage · 13/04/2014 13:45

I like Ailsa best too.

I like a name that people know how to say. I think if people are not sure what your name is then it can create a barrier between you.

I have a name that I always have to spell and it's a pain.

I don't like Ailsa at all, it's so frumpy and unattractive. Elsa is lovely though.

Thank you for the opinions so far. Will be good to show DH this thread. Please keep replying.

Ailsa May - Dislike
Persephone May - Love Persephone. This is on our list.

I've never heard Inara, but I like it the best! Not keen on the others.

Quejica · 13/04/2014 17:47

Love Alyssa (or Alessia)

NadiaWadia · 13/04/2014 17:50

I like Alyssa and Persephone. Not so keen on Ailsa. Inara I have never heard of, where does it come from?

Ailsa just edges Persephone for me. I don't really like the others.

Tyranasaurus · 14/04/2014 07:47

Don't mind any of the first names, hate May as a middle name.

magentasurprise · 14/04/2014 08:44

I prefer Elsa to Ailsa (unless you are Scottish). Elsa is lovely.

Persephone- I like Classical Greek/ Roman names but this is too clunky and long for me. I don't think it is as pretty as lots of other Classical names.

Inara/ Alyssa- dislike these two.

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo · 14/04/2014 10:48

I absolutely love the name Alyssa. Not keen on the rest, sorry.

UriGeller · 14/04/2014 10:52

I like Ailsa. Don't like May for a middle name though. It might as well be Grace or Rose.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 14/04/2014 10:54

My favourite is Inara. It's unusual and pretty.
Persephone is my second favourite.
Alyssa is next, not really my taste but fine.
Ailsa I struggle with, honestly. It sounds a bit clumsy.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 14/04/2014 10:55

Is there a reason for May? It goes with everything, but would you consider June? That's when you're due, right?

SparklyMonkeyMummy · 14/04/2014 14:52

The reason for May is that it was my grandmothers middle name. Unfortunately we lost her to cancer a year ago now, so it is pretty much a non negotiable name. I know it's very popular as a middle name right now, which is a shame, but to me it has special meaning.
