Damn you Miley Cyrus

So back when I was at university I knew a couple called Kylie and Michael, everyone called them Mylie as a "couples name" (Brangelina style.) I really liked the name from then..I remember thinking it would make a nice name for a daughter one day! Funny because I'm not a fan of Kylie/Riley but really liked Miley.

Do you think there's any possibility of being able to use it without the Cyrus connection? Even when she rose to fame as Hannah Montana I thought "oh well she seems sweet enough" so would have still used it. I'm hoping by the time my DD is older Cyrus will be long gone but I have a feeling that is wishful thinking lol think she may be one for the history books!! And even more annoyingly my DH loves Millie which I am not so keen on so Miley would make for a great compromise.

Anyone else think it's a nice name though? Her real name is actually Destiny but was nicknamed Smiley as a youngster which got turned into Miley. Just found that out today!

There's a woman I've seen has a BIG pram, absolutely swathed in Broderie Anglaise and nylon netting. Got the baby's name embroidered on the top in swirly pink letters "Miley-Rae".

I've imagined her a son called Billy too.

Or Mailys (pronounced my-lease more or less) which is a nice French name?

Millie, however spelt is fine. MC will be old and forgotten by the time your DD and the slightly older (born the year before the stripper act) Millie I know are old enough to care.

My family veto'd my choice for DD2 partly due to a celeb, that vanished from the news by the time she was old enough to care.

quietlysuggests - That's sad but I do know similar children. I don't like snobbery about names partly because it's rife in my family.
My friend has a Mialie (not spelt that way) who was born before Miley Cyrus became famous. She gets annoyed when people assume her name is Miley.

Just no. For exactly the reason that it's just like calling your child Kylie or Beyoncé or Britney.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 28/03/2014 13:42

Oh, I met a Miley-Rae too. Hmm

googietheegg · 28/03/2014 13:45

No. It's grim.

Blueberrybaby · 28/03/2014 13:48

No sorry, regardless of the Cyrus connection, I just don't like it as a name.

Frikadellen · 29/03/2014 14:51

Yes as they hear it they will at the moment think Cyrus but then it becomes your dd and that's their reference. Next time they hear it that will be who they think off. Pretty name I o
