How popular is the name Theodore where you live?

My 7 mo is called Theodore. We live in Greater London. I have come across a few others recently and was surprised at how popular the name is and kind of worried we chose a too popular name. I only knew of one other when we chose the name who was 9 years old. We are leaving him to decide how he wants to be know e.g. Theo, Ted, Teddy, or Ned but everyone is now calling him Theo, which is very used.... So how many Theodore's do you know and how old are they?

I know 3 (Sussex/Kent), one 1 month, one 1 year, one about 3. All Theo not Theodore as far as I know.

none (Norfolk) I once met a Theo a few yrs ago.

I know one, aged two, known as Teddy or Ted. In Lincoln. It's a great name, we considered it for DS.

BananaHammocks · 23/03/2014 08:55

Oh and I know one who is 32! Was only thinking of children!

MrsJoeHart · 23/03/2014 09:00

Of all the boys I know under five about 40% are called Ted, Teddy or Theo. it's very popular. However this happened to us with dd1, we thought we'd picked an unusual name for her it wasn't even in the top one hundred the year she was born. It's now very very popular, but there's nothing we can do.

itsnothingoriginal · 23/03/2014 09:05

I don't know any Theos or Theodore's locally. I really love the name Theo Smile

I'm struggling a bit too with my DD s name which I chose because it was beautiful and rare (imo of course) but I've started hearing everywhere recently. Names are popular for a reason though Grin

I think it's become v popular in London and the SE, and Ted/Teddy for Edward is also on the rise, so there are a lot of similar names around. Not at all popular where we are though (SW).

PanicMode · 23/03/2014 13:02

Mine is almost 10, baptised as Theodore but called Theo. When we chose it everyone raved about how unusual it was......we are in the SE and I now can't stop tripping over them Grin.

I know a six year old called Theo, but that's all - South Yorkshire.

hunreeeal · 23/03/2014 17:02

I know one little Theo, not sure if it's short for Theodore.

Pinkcustardpurplecustard · 24/03/2014 14:35

One only. Very cute.

picnicbasketcase · 24/03/2014 14:50

I've never met anyone called Theo. Lots of Leo, but no Theos.

ChickenMe · 24/03/2014 15:30

I know one. It's a good name. Even cooler for a girl

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/03/2014 15:35

One aged 15 & one aged about 2. Both Theo though, I don't think I know any Theodore's.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/03/2014 15:35

Oh, and Staffordshire.

alita7 · 24/03/2014 15:37

in berks I haven't heard it on a child for a while.

NoIdeasForUsername · 24/03/2014 16:14

I live in London- have met a Theo, but never a Theodore.

Edgarallan · 24/03/2014 17:19

Very popular know 2 under 2

QueenofKelsingra · 24/03/2014 17:41

I know a good handful of under 5yr old theos - only one of them I know is Theodore. if you've chosen a name with an obvious shortening which you don't want to use, I would pick one and start using that otherwise he will be theo.

Nojustalurker · 25/03/2014 17:56

DH and I have loved this names for years. We joking said we would use it for and now 5 years later when we are thinking of having children it is becoming popular. We must just be trend setters.

SqutterNutBaush · 25/03/2014 17:58

I don't know any (NE Scotland)

TheScience · 25/03/2014 18:02

heronsfly · 25/03/2014 18:05
