Gray or Max?

We have a girls name, but are stuck on a boys name.

We like Gray and Max. He would be Grayson or Maximilian for birth certificate purposes.

I am a bit wobbly about both. I'm wobbly on Max due to DH being Matt (Matthew), and Max and Matt being a bit cutesy together (DH is unconcerned), and I love Gray, but am a bit concerned a) with Grayson being a bit 'chavvy' (sorry to use the word, but easiest way to explain), and also people thinking his full name might be Graham.

Any thoughts?

Max

Grayson is nice but if someone told me their newborn was called Gray I'd immediately think they were a 50 shades fanatic.

BlueStarsAtNight · 19/03/2014 16:34

I'm surprised at myself but I actually really like Grayson and Gray, and 50 shades wouldn't even occur to me!

I do like Max too (prefer Maxwell to Maximillian), but tbh I'd worry it was too close to Matt, I don't think I'd do it.

Grayson! Love it. Names aren't chavvy, people are.

cookielove · 19/03/2014 20:22

Grayson, nn Gray is our number 1 for a boy!

superlambanana · 19/03/2014 20:31

Max, definitely. But please spell it with double L (I'm pretty sure that's the correct spelling... But do correct me if I'm wrong)

superlambanana · 19/03/2014 20:32

Oooooh iPhone changes it from Maximillian to Maximilian. My theory may be incorrect...

alita7 · 19/03/2014 22:21

We love max it's on our shortlist. Grey is a boring colour so would avoid gray.

Looby12 · 19/03/2014 22:32

I'd think Gray was short for graham to be honest. I don't mind either name but think max is more common if that makes any difference to your opinion of it.

Plus it depends on the surname as well.

Sorry not much help either way Smile

Grayson is cool and Gray a great nickname! Good underused classic.

Max is overused and will soon start to sound dated as it falls out of fashion again.

ShadowFall · 20/03/2014 09:23

I prefer Max.

But just a thought - if you do go for that, I'd advise picking a middle name with a different initial to your DH's middle name.

Otherwise you might run into confusion later on when bank letters or whatever arrive addressed to Mr M carrie105, and you can't tell whether they're for Max or Matt without opening them....
