nevaeh, it's not original!

I work in a maternity hospital and enjoy looking on the baby names threads and compare with names I've heard at work need to get a life
I cannot get over the number of people who proudly announce their little ones name as nevaeh and think they are the first to think of it Hmm
I of course just smile and say its lovely but FFS there are 100's of kids running around with this name, some people don't even spell it correctly!
It's not clever
Sorry, rant over, as you wereGrin

Why do you think they believe they invented the name? Confused

I'd go for Senga myself.

DS1's name backwards produces a girl's name this amuses him greatly.

Oh I knew a Senga, I think her parents and grandparents still call her Agnes though!

According to Wikipedia, it was the 3rd most popular name for girls born in New Mexico and for black girls born in New York in 2010.

I know a senga! Fortunately it seems to have died out now. Its an awful name.

I know someone who pronounces it "Neve". (To rhyme with Eve)

You sound like a nob OP.

I know three. One of them says it as Nuvay/Nuvae, but I like the Nuveya pronunciation more. It's not to my taste, but I quite like the sound.

Littlefish-are you sure she's not calle Neve? Grin

FatAmy · 16/03/2014 18:05

Surely if it's spelled nevaeh it would be pronounced nev-ah-eh? I've only ever seen it written down so that's how I say it in my head Confused I'm crap with pronunciation though.

Martorana - I think Niamh is a really pretty name - I'm just surprised at the parents' spelling! Grin

I'm never sure how to pronounce it either, but luckily I never have to!

It pretty much epitomises everything I hate in a name. Impossible to pronounce, made up, gimmicky, makes no phonetic sense.

I always thought it was an urban myth, but a year or two ago I met a couple in a doctors waiting room and they did indeed proudly explain that her name was heaven backwards and seemed to be waiting to be told that that was very clever. Of course I smiled politely, but I think it's a really really odd thing to do. Nothing wrong with choosing a name with meaning, but I wonder why 'heaven' seems to be the only word that gets this treatment, or why the parents don't opt for something like Celeste.

I think it's a dreadful name, personally. I always wonder why some people misspell it, when it's heaven backwards.
