Ruby - is it too popular? How many do you know under 5?

Recently had a post on here about our top 3 names being Amber, Carla and Freya - thanks for all your tips!

We have one final option - Ruby - which we also love but it is higher up the popularity rankings than I was hoping. How popular is it would you say? Popular enough that there will always be more than one in classes at school?

Thank you

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know about four pf them under 2 years old.

It's very popular, I think it'll be their generation's Karen or Sharon.

skybluepinkwithpolkadots · 09/03/2014 22:14

I know of 3 in my personal life, all aged 5-7 years

Work in a school and there are 2 in year 3, so 7/8 years old

pixiestix · 09/03/2014 22:16

I'm in London. I know two - one newborn, one aged 3.

emsyj · 09/03/2014 22:19

I'm in the north west and I don't know any at all.

HollyBen · 09/03/2014 22:21

There are 3 Ruby's in DDs nursery class We have met a further 2 at various classes and a friend if a friend's daughter is Ruby. All around 3. All seem lovely from the little I know of them. I am not overly keen on it personally. I prefer Carla or Freya

LePetitPont · 11/03/2014 19:21

I don't know any Rubys either apart from the odd cat but do know a Freya and an Amber.

Lagoonablue · 11/03/2014 19:23

I know 3. All 7.

Lagoonablue · 11/03/2014 19:23

What about Nancy? I love it and would have used it but had a boy.

melliebobs · 14/03/2014 16:58

Love nancy....but it's dd's name so I'm biased

sleepingbeautiful · 14/03/2014 17:23

I know one, and she is 5 months.

therunnawaybride · 14/03/2014 17:28

2 ages 7 in ds's class at school
1 aged 3 in dd's nursery class
And 1 age 2
I do hear it bandied about a lot at the local park etc.. Though it does seem quite popular in the south west.

atthestrokeoftwelve · 14/03/2014 17:29

I know 3 dogs called Ruby.

KatherinaMinola · 14/03/2014 17:32

I'm liking Carla. Ruby was number 1 a few years ago so a lot of them about.

HavantGuard · 14/03/2014 18:17

It was number one in England and Wales in 2007. It's now 12th.

names.darkgreener.com/#ruby This shows how it's risen in popularity since 1996 (and started to drop again.)

SadFreak · 15/03/2014 18:46

I know 2 Rubys. One my mums friend 70 plus ans the other is 15.

mygrandchildrenrock · 15/03/2014 21:36

In a nursery school with 100 children on roll, there is 1 Ruby and she is lovely, as is her name.
My dgd is called Freya (she's lovely too) and I've only taught one other Freya. It's a lovely name too, but then I'm biased.

HaveToWearHeels · 15/03/2014 21:40

I have a Ruby, she is 4. We know no other Ruby's.

Ludways · 15/03/2014 21:43

I know two, they're 6 and 2.5. NE.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 15/03/2014 21:45

itfcbabe · 15/03/2014 22:33

It was my Grandma's name and I have always loved it,If I had another baby I might use it

guineapig2014 · 16/03/2014 19:35
