Louisa or something similar

Baby due in 2 weeks. Don't know the sex but struggling with a girl's name. My mum suggested Louisa the other day & I do really like it but wanted to canvas opinions. I also wanted to ask for some other similar suggestions. FYI, I like traditional names that aren't in the top 20ish. Thanks in advance.

Louisa is ok but I don't like Louise. It sounds dated to me. What about Lucinda or Matilda or Clara?

Louisa is pretty. I like Eloise too.
Or Lauren maybe?

Dovahkiin · 07/03/2014 23:49

Louisa is lovely! Familiar but not over-used, feminine but not drippy. Go with it!
Similar names: Eloise, Anna, Maria

At the moment Louisa makes me think about the one from the apprentice, but her 15 mins are nearly up! I always loved Jessica as I also liked it's short versions, but then I had a boy.

foodaholic · 07/03/2014 23:53

Eloise could be another option actually. Only problem is people getting the spelling wrong

Yeah, the apprentice thing had crossed my mind but hoping most people will have forgotten that association in a few months

I know an Eloisa, I love it was on my list but had a ds

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 08/03/2014 00:03

Please don't use Louisa, it's DD's name & I don't want it getting everywhere! No, seriously, it's a lovely name. Similar names could be Eliza (DDs mn), Matilda, Sophia or Lucia?

Lurleene · 08/03/2014 00:09

How about Lois? I wanted to call DD that but was vetoed Sad

MagratGarlik · 08/03/2014 00:11

Love, love, love Louisa. Ds2 would have been Louisa (had he been a girl) if only DBIL and DSIL hadn't already used Luisa.

Pretty, feminine, doesn't date, softer than Louise, not too popular. Please don't switch for one of the ubiquitous 'modern' names in the name of being up to date.

I'm not a fan of Eloise/Elise/Elsie/Eliza/Elize which all seem very popular round here at the moment - people can never remember quite what the name is as there are so many variations!

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 08/03/2014 00:18

The Swedish version is Lovisa.

I don't mind Louisa but not especially keen on the 'Loo' sound and 'Lou' often ends up as a nn.
