This is my third thread, getting nowhere with Dh and boys name

DH only likes ONE name, Aldous. I don't like it for a few reasons.

I have literally suggested tens of names I like and I get a no for all of them. i have told him to come up with a list. I'm 30 weeks now.

Can mumsnet please come up with some suggestions that might be new based on names I like, to see if there's ANYTHING he likes.

What about Cassius? It's a sort of compromise on Aldous and Cash!

Well your dh is going to have to come up with some other names then! It is very unfair of him not too, what if you insisted on a name that he doesn't like.....Both my dh and I have had to compromise on all are dc's names. Give him the name book and tell him he needs to come up with 5/6 names that he likes and then you can choose together. Or do what I did and call the dog his favourite name so it couldn't be used :)

I have a Sacha, he is Alexander but we have always called him Sacha. We thought he might like the option of being Alexander, Alex, Zander, etc but he loves being Sacha, it really suits him.

I don't like Aldous (Huxley fan?) or any of yours either, to be honest.

Kit is a nickname for Christopher - would you and OH go for that? Then you can call baby Kit and he can call baby Chris.

How were you thinking about pronouncing Elias? I really like the name, so much so that we name our ds it! It can be pronounced with a strong E or a strong I for the second syllable ( e-lee-as or e-lie-as). Maybe your DH would prefer the other pronunciation? I think it is a fab name as it can be found in quite a few countries so has a "worldly" feel plus it has a great nn in Eli.

I think Elijah is lovely and sort of similar to Elias? Or Jasper?

What is the reason your dh gives for wanting to have aldous? Is it a family name that he feels obliged to use, or he likes aldous Huxley or he just decided one day that he liked it...

Does he realise that you are not prepared to have a child called aldous under any circumstances? Would you be prepared to compromise on it being a second name? What reason does he give for refusing to give other names - does he think you will give in? Why doesn't he like your names - any reasons?

If all else fails, make sure that you keep hold of the form you're given at the hospital to go and register the birth so he can't go off and register the name while you are not there. And in an appalling case of double standards and hypocrisy have you considered nipping off to register the name without him? (disclaimer - I would be furious if somebody did this to me but conversely if my dh was being bloody minded about a name I felt was bloody awful then I would be tempted to do this!)

Has your DH considered it might well get shortened to Aldi at school?

Would you use Aldous for a middle name and go for something briefer for a first name?

Otis is the only one I like from your list. It's not a million miles from Aldous (which I like a lot more).

If you can't stand Aldous, tell him Aldous is a 'no' from you and you will not entertain it under any circumstances; he must come up with a list of 20 names and none of them can be Aldous.

As for you, stop suggesting names. He is taking the piss, turning them all down.

Thanks for all the replies. Dh likes Aldous because of Huxley bit I also just think of Russell brand. Also I went out with someone called Aldo years ago. Aldi as a nn also concerns me! I have told him no categorically, but he doesn't like ANYTHING else.

I like a lot of the names on this thread, dh doesn't like any! He still hasn't started looking at any names though. He's really pissing me off!

Keep the names coming because there are loads I like so many one he will.
