I've become obsessed with the 'cool girls' names' thread.

At 8 months pregnant I am suddenly desperate to call my new daughter:

Sherbet Raine
or
Calypso Star

Tell me I'm insane?! They just sound so sweet to my pregnancy addled ears.

Until last night my front runners were:

Natasha Seren Grace
Xanthe Zara Rhiannyd
and
Arabella Efa Rose

What do you think? Was I playing it safe and should go 'cool'? Or was I previously 'normal' and I now considering scarring my child for life with an 'odd' name?

Think of a little Sherbet running around the playground - cute, no? Blush

No! Do not call your child Sherbet. It is not cool. Xanthe however is lovely. Go with that!

hatebeak · 02/03/2014 18:22

You might just get away with Calypso. Just. I'd really avoid Sherbet, though. Go for Xanthe or Seren instead!

bakingtins · 02/03/2014 18:48

Please don't call your daughter Sherbet. You will look like a loon.

Any of your previous choices are better by far. I prefer Natasha, Seren, Grace and Rose in any combination.

ToffeeJungle · 02/03/2014 19:20

No you shouldn't call your daughter Sherbet or Calypso.

Natasha is lovely and not heard that much these days.
Also like Seren, Zara and Grace.

DitsyDonkey · 02/03/2014 19:21

Xanthe is fabulous!

Sundaedelight · 02/03/2014 19:41

Arabella Effie Rose

manicinsomniac · 02/03/2014 19:54

Thank you. Needed a reality check. (you'd think the fact that I couldn't tell anyone in real life what I was considering would have done it really wouldn't you!) Grin.

Maybe I could get a puppy and call that Sherbet ...

Xanthe is amazing but I really like Calypso Not so keen on sherbert but Raine was a front contender for our dd3

PenguinsEatSpinach · 02/03/2014 21:56

Your original choices are the way to go! Sherbet Raine sounda like a Prince song or a porn star. Please tell me there isn't a child out there somewhere called that?Shock

Cuxibamba · 02/03/2014 22:58

Not Sherbet, no way! Calypso Star is okay, I suppose. I LOVE Xanthe. When I was pregnant with DS1, I had some very, uh, suspect names planned for him btw.

toobreathless · 02/03/2014 23:01

No to sherbet just NO!

Calypso is slightly better......

But I LOVE all three of your other names, gorgeous, it would be criminal not to use one of them.

toobreathless · 02/03/2014 23:03

Ha! Agreed penguim

.....I only want to see you dancing in The Sherbert Raine......!

SimplySara · 02/03/2014 23:06

Although not keen on the first names, I really do like the middle names of Raine or Star. Perhaps you could use them still as middle names to add a bit of a spark to your original plans.

RalphRecklessCardew · 04/03/2014 08:38

Sherbert would be an adorable nn for a baby. 'Scrumptious little sherbert-fizzy-bobs'. Not, please God, anywhere near a birth certificate.

shootingstar1234 · 04/03/2014 18:19

Seren Grace is lovely and I like most of your other names too however please do not call your child Calypso or Sherbet! I have a relatively normal name (recently become very popular- think white and yellow flower) and was teased horrifically as it was seen somewhat unusual at the time so think of the teasing poor little Sherbet would suffer!

ikeaismylocal · 04/03/2014 18:48

I quite like the name sherbet!

spiderlight · 04/03/2014 18:51

Rhiannydd needs two ds on the end :)

MrsRV · 04/03/2014 20:47

now I really try not to be nasty & rude on mnet as so many people are... however, Sherbert? Calypso? WTF???? Grin Your other names are lovely by the way. Arabella is my fave!!

EirikurNoromaour · 04/03/2014 20:55

Sherbert? Confused

manicinsomniac · 04/03/2014 22:04

Don't worry, I have accepted that I can't actually do this.

Briefly considered Felicity to lead to Fizzy to lead to Sherbet. But I won't.

I think Xanthe is my current most likely.

Thanks for the spelling correction spiderlight. I'm not actually Welsh, just trying to honour my late Father who was Welsh.

Xanthe Zara Rhiannydd it (probably! Until the next bout of madness hits!) is.

Love Calypso - makes me think of The Camomile Lawn.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 06/03/2014 10:17

By all means call your child Sherbert, if you (and she!) can live with the nickname 'Dip-Dab'. Grin

How about Callista?

squoosh · 06/03/2014 15:36

I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted to one time see you laughing
I only wanted to see you laughing at poor Sherbet Raine

Sherbet Raine, Sherbet Raaaaaaaine

EirikurNoromaour · 06/03/2014 15:37

Xanthe Zara isn't great, two Z sounds next to each other. Calypso xanthe is better.

squoosh · 06/03/2014 15:38

Xanthe Zara Rhiannyd sounds like a sugar replacement that would have leaky side effects.
