it's Ariane... I didn't think it was so offensive but everyone hates it, especially shortened to Ari. I know I shouldn't care but can't help it!! :-(

Ariane is lovely.

This is the problem with telling / discussing baby names with anyone before the birth.

If you wait til the baby is born they are a) more interested in the actual baby than the name and b) not so rude or eager to stick their oar in because it is a done deal by then.

all of your comments have made me feel so much better! I am back to thinking it's beautiful and no doubt will be perfect for DD2 Smile

I really like it. Met a Peruvian girl with that name and immediately smiled when I heard it. If I were having any more I would use it myself.

spiderlight · 24/02/2014 19:23

I think it's absolutely beautiful!

Yonineedaminute · 24/02/2014 19:23

Gosh I thought it was going to be something really pretentious or ugly!

Ariane is lovely!

SmashleyHop · 24/02/2014 19:25

My nephews name is Ari- I love it, don't know why people would have a problem with it.

I went through the same thing with my daughter's name Lorelai. My BIL actually told me not to use that name because she would have to be gorgeous to pull it off!!! 0_o (She is- but I know I'm biased) I didn't listen to any of them and I'm glad because it's perfect for her. Stick to your guns. It's a beautiful name and I'm sure it will suit her.

manicinsomniac · 25/02/2014 15:11

Odd that you should get such a unanimous expression of hate. Ariane is pretty. I don't love it but I like it and can't see what's to dislike.

I knew an Arianne at university. She was French so I assumed it was a French name but don't know if it actually is.

ginzillas · 25/02/2014 19:47

Lovely name. Ignore people who say other wise. Love the shortening too.l

Eastpoint · 25/02/2014 20:31

I love the name, perhaps because the Ariane & Arianna I have known were both lovely people. It's the French version of the classical name Ariadne.

justhayley · 25/02/2014 21:09

I think it's lovely - not keen in it shortened

Benchmark · 26/02/2014 08:12

I love this name. It it were me I'd shorten it to Annie. But the full name is lovely on it's own. I would also spell it Arianne.

RonaldMcDonald · 26/02/2014 08:15

Ariane is lovely

Redbexgreen · 26/02/2014 22:32

I agree with everyone - lovely name. People are weird!

pinkangelita · 27/02/2014 21:21

Beautiful name Smile

motleymop · 27/02/2014 21:24

What? Who are these people? Ignorami! It's a pretty name.

chattychattyboomba · 02/03/2014 14:54

Hello! Just adding my 2 pence! DD (almost 3) is Ariana. We call her Ari but not like 'Hari' without the 'h'.... We say Arrr (like a pirate haha!) Ar-ree-ar-na...no 'ah-ree-ah-na'...we have had lots of positive comments.

To me it make more sense. Like the name Arya...or music Aria. If it had a 'nn' it would be 'Anne' 'Anna' but with one n it makes it Arna iyswim. We still have idiot friends who refuse to pronounce it properly and also spell it with 2 n's but then when they name their kids weird names I just make a point of pronouncing them wrong (childish) Wink

Cezella · 03/03/2014 11:28

Arian (without the e) is a completely acceptable name where I'm from in North Wales and it's literally Welsh for Silver. It can also be short for Arianwen

Mim78 · 03/03/2014 13:03

I like it
